- IMportant People 11-26-09: Chatting with an ex-pat
-
It's no secret that, over the past 30-some years, hundreds of thousands of Western New Yorkers have set out for destinations across the United States in search of greener economic pastures. And while prospects for the future may seem brighter down South or out West, at this time of year - the holiday season - the gaze of many of these ex-pats turns back towards the shores of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario. In this week's IMportant People, join us as we talk with Margaret Lanza - a successful engineer and mother who lives and works in the Charleston, SC metro area after growing up in Dunkirk and completing her undergraduate studies at the University at Buffalo. Ask Ms. Lanza how she feels about her decision to seek opportunities far away from her home town - and how she manages to stay in touch with family and friends scattered throughout the US when these special times of year come along.
Visit Buffalo.com on Wednesday at noon to participate in the IMportant People live blog, or read the transcript any time on the IMportant People home page.
- IMportant People: Chatting with Donn Esmonde
-
If there is one man in Western New York who truly has his finger on the pulse of the region, it's Buffalo News Columnist Donn Esmonde. His most recent stories have dealt with some of the hottest issues facing Buffalo, Western New York, and the world - such as the role of mercenaries in the current Iraqi War; the emotional price of paid by America's soldiers; the revitalization of the Buffalo Zoo; and many others. Join us at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 19 as Mr. Esmonde joins the IMportant People blog to talk about his work and to answer your questions.
- IMportant People: Who can you trust in a recession?
-
In Monday's Buffalo News,
Samantha Maziarz Christmann wrote about some of the too-good-to-be-true
employment opportunities that are being advertised throughout Western
New York - you know, the "make thousands in your free time," "become
rich from your desktop"-type schemes that seem just a little too easy. The article raises an important issue - in a struggling economy, who can you trust with your time, toil, and treasure? Join Ellen Tucker of the Better Business Bureau on Wednesday at noon for the latest installment of IMportant People and a chance to ask Ms. Tucker your questions about honesty and integrity in a harsh economic climate.
