- IMportant People 12-31-08: Looking Back at the Biggest Stories of 2008 with George Pyle
-
Pat yourself on the back - you've made it through an amazing year. In 2008, we experienced a historical presidential election, endured the implosion of our economy, raised our eyebrows at the prospect of progress on the Buffalo waterfront, furrowed those same brows at the Bills and Sabres, and pretended not to watch the (sometimes literal) trials and tribulations of the celebrity class. On Wednesday at noon, Buffalo News Editorial Writer George Pyle will take part in a one-hour IMportant People live blog to help us make sense of it all.

- IMportant People 12-24-08: Christopher Byrd of Broadway-Fillmore Alive
-
During the holiday season, we often feel nostalgic for the way things were, and hopeful for the way things could be. In that sense, the holiday season never ends for Buffalo activist Christopher Byrd, who - with his cohorts in Broadway-Fillmore Alive - is working to rebuild one of the city's most historic East Side neighborhoods. Join Mr. Byrd at Buffalo.com's weekly IMportant People live blog on Wednesday at noon to talk about the traditional holiday celebrations that are still found in Buffalo's Polonia. To participate:

- IMportant People 12-17-08: Justin Azzarella of the Elmwood Village Association
-
We are deep into the holiday season, and many of us have the same, age-old questions - things like, "Where can I buy a cool gift?" "How can I support local businesses?" and "Where can I conveniently shop, eat, and maybe sneak in a little fun so I don't spend my entire Saturday battling crowds and grinding my teeth into a fine powder?"
On this week's IMportant People live blog session, our guest - Elmwood Village Association Executive Director Justin Azzarella - will be able to answer these questions and much, much more about local holiday shopping, interesting upcoming events, and life in general in a vibrant, nationally-recognized section of Buffalo. Log in between noon and 1 PM on Wednesday to read along and to send your questions to Justin, or peruse the transcript here at the IMportant People page at your leisure.
- IMportant People 12-10-08: Talking hoops with the Golden Griffs
-
They're young, they're talented, and they're fun to watch - they are the Canisius College men's basketball team. The Golden Griffins have posted a 3-5 record in the first month of the college basketball season, but that puts the squad on pace to easily outdo the 2007-2008 team's 6-25 mark. The Griffs are also working to rebuild fan support at the Koessler Athletic Center, encouraging the kind of raucous student support that makes "The KAC" a dangerous trip for any visiting team. If you have questions for the squad, or just want to shoot the breeze about college basketball in Western New York and across the nation, then this is your place to be - talk hoops with the Canisius College Golden Griffin Junior Center Chris Gadley (Amherst, NY/Amherst High School) on Wednesday at noon right here at Buffalo.com.
- IMportant People 12-03-08: News Neediest Fund
-
For the 27th consecutive year, The Buffalo News, United Way, and over a dozen local agencies are working to support The News Neediest Fund - an effort that collects toys, gifts, and cash and, in turn, distributes the items to families whose holidays would otherwise be grim.
On Nov. 19, Buffalo News Reporter Jay Rey quoted News President Warren Colville as describing this year's fund drive as a big challenge. “There are so many people in need this year,” Colville said in Rey's article, “probably more than ever before.” Rey also reported that the drive "...distributed more than $700,000 in toys and food to some 12,000 households across the region" in 2007.On Wednesday, Dec. 3, join Cindy Sterner, promotions and public affairs manager at The Buffalo News, on the IMportant People live blog at Buffalo.com to discuss the 2008 News Neediest Fund - learn what to donate, where to take the items, how the goods are distributed, and much more. Send in your questions to Ms. Sterner so she can get you live answers, or read the transcript anytime here at Buffalo.com.
