- IMportant People 2-25-09: Talking Baseball
-
We’re offering a ”doubleheader” in this week’s IMportant People chat: we will be talking to two authors Wednesday. Both authors will be discussing their recently released books on baseball. Our first guest is Mick Cochrane, author of The Girl Who Threw Butterflies and professor of English and Lowery Writer-in-Residence at Canisius College. Our second guest is Kurtis Scaletta, author of Mudville. Scaletta works at the University of Minnesota. Feel free to ask them questions about their books, writing, publishing and baseball in general. That's IMportant People on Buffalo.com Wednesday at noon.
- IMportant People 2-18-09: Matt Smith of Buffalo Chips
-
Join us Wednesday from noon to 1 PM as the IMportant People live blog welcomes Matt Smith of Buffalo Chips, the University at Buffalo's all-male a capella group. Since 1995, the Chips have performed for numerous dignitaries, heads of state, faculty, students, and fans all over the country. They sing rock, pop, jazz and funk at numerous venues each semester (oh, and they're funny too). Matt will chat about the group, its recent Valentine's Day show and the Chips' upcoming competitions. Ask him questions and learn more about this local, talented singing group.
- IMportant People: Dan Barry 2/11/09
-
Pulitzer-Prize-winning journalist Dan Barry has traveled across America delving deep into events in our own backyards. His weekly column in The New York Times, "This Land," tells the stories behind the stories-asking questions often left unasked. From police brutality to September 11, Mr. Barry covered an array of topics for The Times since 1995. He also wrote two books: "Pull Me Up: A Memoir" and "City Lights: Stories About New York," a collection of his "About New York" columns. Join us for this week's IMportant People live chat on Buffalo.com for your chance to chat with Dan Barry. How did it feel to cover national tragedies? What issue will he investigate next? Check out IMportant People for these answers and more this Wednesday at noon for a discussion you won't want to miss!
- IMportant People 2-4-09: Presidential politics with historian Phillip Payne
-
Historians, political scientists, and political partisans have already begun what will be a long and heated discussion about the legacy of President George W. Bush. And with the changing of the guard in Washington this month, there's also been a lot of looking backward at the legacy of one of our greatest presidents, Abraham Lincoln.
This week on IMportant People, we'll chat with presidential historian Philip Payne, author of a forthcoming book on President Warren G. Harding - frequently cited as one of America's worst presidents. How does President Bush compare? Are those comparisons even fair? Who IS the worst president ever - and who's the best? Join us Wednesday at noon for a discussion of presidential legacies on Buffalo.com's IMportant People.
