Thursday tidbits

That's it for another season at Dunn Tire Park as the Bisons beat Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, 3-2, in what figures to be their home finale with the Cleveland Indians. Some rainy-day extras still in my notebook:

Yankee update: Scranton is 86-53 and leads Pawtucket in the IL North by three games with four to play. The Yankees' magic number is two. Melky Cabrera went 1 for 4 for Scranton and is 15 for 42 (.357) for the Baby Yanks since his demotion from New York. The Bisons are 64-75 and 22 games back.

Pronk's progress: Travis Hafner went 1 for 3 in the game and looked OK after three days off but Buffalo manager Torey Lovullo said he still doesn't figure to play any back-to-back games the rest of the way. Like David Briggs said a couple days ago, he can't play a full game or back-to-back ones in Triple-A and you're going to try to put him in the big leagues? Hmmm.

"He would usually tire before his final at-bat and today there was no lingering effects of the fatigue through his third at-bat," Lovullo said. "Three days of conditioning and building up the stamina paid off today."

Callups?: Lovullo spent a few minutes after today's games in meetings with pitchers Aaron Laffey, Rich Rundles, Jeff Weaver, John Meloan and Tom Mastny. My bet is all of them are going to Cleveland on Monday. Lovullo said no announcement is coming until the weekend. But I can put two and two together and get four, too.

Rivalry in Triple-A: Scranton and Pawtucket's upcoming playoff series will mark the first Yankee-Red Sox meeting in the postseason since Columbus and Pawtucket played in 1991.

Weaver? A September callup? I’d be surprised if they spent major league meal money on him. They’d also have to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, and risk losing someone to waivers. For that matter, Rundles is also not on the 40. But Bullington is.
