Joyce recounts the blown call

Here's an incredible story from the Detroit Free Press: A very long but worth-every-word interview with umpire Jim Joyce recounting the immediate moments and the days after Wednesday's blown call on the Armando Galarraga perfect game.

Joyce is from Toledo, about an hour from Detroit, and close to where Jim Leyland grew up. They're actually pretty good friends and it's pretty obvious that Leyland's sense of PR helped the situation simmer down dramatically when it was a powerkeg in the making.

As I wrote in today's Inside Baseball column, the Joyce call should kick-start the discussion of enhanced instant replay.
