The Buffalo Bisons struggles against the Indianapolis Indians continue. After dropping three of four against the Indians on the road last week, the Herd dropped the series opener at Coca-Cola Field on Thursday, 7-3. That puts them at 1-4 against Indy this season. The Bisons have not won a series against the Indians in Buffalo since 2004.

Vargas on the Mound: Claudio Vargas makes his ninth start for the Herd. He leads the team in ERA (4.70) and quality starts with four. In his last outing on May 18 against Charlotte, Vargas took the loss, giving up six earned runs on seven hits in three innings.

Who's in first? The Bisons have now been tied or alone in first place of the International League North for 33 straight games, the club's longest streak since 2007. The Herd spent 65 straight games in first place and spent 76 games total in first, but failed to make the playoffs. Going into tonight's action, the Bisons are tied for first with Pawtucket.

Tonight's Bison lineup:

Jim Negrych -- 2B
Moises Sierra -- RF
Luis Jimenez -- DH
