Mauro Gomez will have a chance to become the third Buffalo Bison to be crowned Triple-A All-Star Home Run Derby Champion.
The Herd's designated hitter was one of three players from the International League selected to compete against three Pacific Coast League sluggers in the All-Star Home Run Derby on July 15 in Reno, Nevada.
Gomez has 24 home runs on the season for the third most in all of minor league baseball. He has posted five multi-home run games this season, tied for the modern era Buffalo Bisons record.
Last year, Valentino Pascucci belted out 22 home runs in the All-Star derby at Coca-Cola Field to win the title. In 2006 it was Andy Marte who took the title with 26 homers at Fifth Third Field in Toledo, Ohio.
Also on the IL home run derby team are Chris Colabello (Rochester) and Ernesto Mejia (Gwinnett).
Representing the PCL will be Matt Davidson (Reno), Johnny Monell (Fresno) and Brock Peterson (Memphis).
The Bisons open a four-game road trip tonight in Syracuse. On Thursday they move to Lehigh Valley before returning home for weekend games against Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
