Vargas makes start as Romero sits start

Claudio Vargas will pitch wherever the Buffalo Bisons need him. And tonight, they need him to start.

Ricky Romero will miss is scheduled started due to illness and the Herd will go with Vargas who has split time as a starter and reliever. This will be his 14ths tart of the season though Vargas has come out of hte bullpen in six of his last seven appearances.

Vargas last started on July 3, allowing four runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings in an 11-1 loss against Rochester.

Romero is now slated to pitch on Monday, taking Dave Bush's spot after the righty was placed on the disabled list today.

Tonight's game against the Toledo Mud Hens in Coca-Cola Field (7:05 p.m.) will be broadcast on Time Warner Cable Sports Channel and on the radio at WWKB 1520 and in Toronto at 590 The FAN.

Cabrera continues rehab: Melky Cabrera wnet 1 for 3 Friday night for the Bisons in his first rehab start with the Herd. He is returning from tendinitis in his left knee and has been on the Blue Jays DL since June 27. He left the game after seven innings yesterday when the game went into a 46-minute rain delay.
