Happy Opening Day!

by Amy Moritz

It's Opening Day in the minor leagues and the Buffalo Bisons begin the 2014 season by hosting the Rochester Red Wings this afternoon at Coca-Cola Field.

Marcus Stroman gets his first Opening Day start in professional ball. Listed at 5-9, Stroman is in his second season of pro ball after playing three years at Duke. His height has always been an issue and his best work comes when he pitches with a chip on his shoulder as he explained in today's game advance.

It's the Bisons debut for manager Gary Allenson, who guided the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats last year.

The Opening Day roster for the Herd features 16 players who played in the Major Leagues last season.

Today's starting lineup for the Bisons:

Anthony Gose -- CF
Kevin Pillar -- RF
Matt Tuiasosopo -- LF
Dan Johnson -- 1B
Andy LaRoche -- 3B
Chris Getz -- 2B
Jared Goedert -- DH
Mike Nickeas -- C
Munenori Kawasaki -- SS
