Buffalo Tracks -- Aug. 23

In a world where things are a Google search away, people and places with local ties inhabit many corners of the Internet.

People who used to live in the Buffalo area, as well as others who still call this place home, have a habit of making news elsewhere. On an occasional basis, Buffalo News Live will highlight these Buffalonians, whether they're gone or they're still here.

Here's the latest edition of Buffalo Tracks:

A 45-year-old Buffalo man has been traveling and working in the fair circuit for 15 years. Duane Webster, and his girlfriend, Denise Flesch, told The Columbus Dispatch they don't mind their "small home on wheels."

An 18-year-old swimmer who moved to Florida from Buffalo with his parents will be competing in the Special Olympics in Greece next year, according to the St. Petersburg Times. Michael Tuason, who has autism, already competed in the Florida Special Olympics in October.

A chain of barbershops in Charlotte has incorporated a blackface image in its corporate logo. The logo was designed by one of the brothers, Jermaine Johnson, when he went to high school in Buffalo, according to The Charlotte Post.

A Buffalo native is in the middle of a cross-continental biking trip from Montreal to Argentina. Jesse Steiner has done two long-distance trips before, and is traveling 20 to 100 miles per day on the days he travels, he told The Daily Iowan.

He's not your typical rock star, according to The Lansdale Reporter in Pennsylvania. Buffalo native Michael Kelly teaches at Montgomery County Community College, but recently toured Europe with The Grip Weeds.
