AMHERST -- Angel of Hope. "Bra"very. Knock Out Cancer.
These are brassieres with significance.
Nineteen bras designed by employees at the University at Buffalo and community members went on display this afternoon at UB's Center for the Arts.
The creations will raise money for the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Research through the University Employees Campaign for the Community.
The handmade bras are more about the message than the undergarment. One, named "Knock Out Cancer," depicts two boxing gloves. Another, filled with basketballs and sporting goods, is called "Be a Sport, Help Support."
"We're not doing anything salacious," said Mary-Camille Schwindler, a project organizers. "We want a cure. We want to wipe out breast cancer."
Organizers will auction the bras on UB's Artful Bra Project website until Nov. 1. The minimum bid is $25.
