Former Kenmore resident and well-known Holocaust survivor and author Gerda Weissmann Klein was featured during a segment on the PBS NewsHour earlier tonight.
Klein was profiled by The News' Gene Warner in July 2010 when she returned for a visit to her adopted hometown. An excerpt from that story:
Klein remembers studying so hard for her own citizenship test when she moved to Buffalo with her husband, Kurt Klein, after World War II. She was a little disappointed when she found out how easy the test was.
“What’s the name of our president?” she was asked.
“Harry S. Truman,” she replied.
“Congratulations,” the questioner said.
Klein says now, “I wish he had asked me what the S stood for.”
The story of Klein, a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom last year, and her husband settling in Buffalo to raise a family comes up shortly after the 1:30 mark of this PBS NewsHour profile:

Buffalo News reporter T.J. Pignataro is live on location outside of Clarence Middle School where school administrators are meeting with parents of the school's girls' lacrosse program.
The team has been suspended for four games after allegations that team members used "the n-word" toward members of the Sweet Home girls' lacrosse team during a recent game.
