On Saturday, the War of 1812's Bombardment of Queenston Heights was re-enacted. (Read Jane Kwiatkowski's story here.)
Chief Photographer Derek Gee's video captures two 5 1/2-inch Howitzer cannons firing during a reenactment of the artillery bombardment of Queenston on Oct. 13, 1812. American artillery fired at Queenston from this location during the Americans' ill-fated invasion of Queenston, which was the first major battle of the War of 1812.
These Howitzers would have fired a 24-pound fused projectile that would explode when detonated. These particular cannons are part of the arsenal from Fort Meigs in Perrysburg, Ohio, and are operated by their regiment of reenactors.
