An editorial today deals with Catholic Charities of Buffalo's 89th annual campaign and the $10.7 million goal for 2013. This year's target is a $100,000 increase over last year's, which the organization achieved.
Appeal Week 2013 takes place today through March 24 to celebrate the support of Western New Yorkers who have already made a contribution, and encourage those who have not already donated. If necessary, volunteers will work toward the final goal until the conclusion of Catholic Charities’ fiscal year on June 30.
The focus is on the good the organization does in providing 70 various programs across 61 sites in Western New York. The services are provided to everyone, regardless of religious affiliation and, in fact, more than half the agency's 130,000 in Western New York are not Catholic.
The organization is reaching out to a younger generation of potential donors through the use of social media such Facebook, Twitter and Quick Response (QR) codes. This YouTube link will take you to a page of videos featuring people telling, in their own words, how Catholic Charities has impacted their lives.
