The Cheektowaga Police Department, in an effort "to provide parents with a brief history of active shooter incidents in the United States, facts related to those incidents and the Cheektowaga Police Department's readiness to deal with such an event," will present A Shooter in Our Schools: Is Our Police Department Prepared? from the Maryvale High School Auditorium at 6:30 p.m. tonight.
The presentation, spearheaded by Chief David J. Zack and the Cheektowaga Police, is designed as a "pro-active" informational event for Cheektowagans following the recent incidents in Aurora, Colo. and Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn. that "have elevated levels of concern in communities everywhere," the police department announced.
Pre-registration was required for the event.
Cheektowaga Police said earlier this week that, because of the overwhelming interest they received about the presentation, it is expected that a second such event will be held in the near future.
Follow along live here where the Buffalo News' Cheektowaga reporter, T.J. Pignataro, will provide frequent updates and images from the event.
