The biggest change in The News' social media activity, though, came in the form of a more dynamic and engaging Twitter timeline packed with breaking tweets, pictures, videos, hyperlinks and retweets from members of the BN staff. We even earned the coveted "verified" badge on our profile.
Of all the tweets that scrolled through our @TheBuffaloNews Twitter stream, the most popular, as determined by Favstar.fm's algorithm, which factors in the number of times a respective tweet is retweeted and favorited, is from Justin Bieber's mid-July concert at First Niagara Center. As of today, it's been retweeted more than 300 times.
Vizify, working in collaboration with Twitter, identified a different -- albeit inaccurate -- set of top tweets from The Buffalo News' Twitter account. @TheBuffaloNews' "golden tweet," described as the account's most retweeted tweet, amassed only a fraction of the retweets earned by the Bieber tweet above. As of today, the following tweet has been retweeted 35 times.

While Bieber and beer ruled our list of top tweets, the most retweeted tweets worldwide dealt with celebrity deaths. Twitter reported that the two most retweeted 140-character messages were related to the deaths of "Glee" star Cory Monteith and "Fast and the Furious" star Paul Walker.
