Among the Common Council's agenda items is a proposal from the Orchard Park-based United Church Home Society to turn the former St Joseph Catholic Church on Payne Avenue into a multiuse complex with housing for homeless youths and veterans.
The discussion on this topic is scheduled to begin at 6:45 p.m. in the city clerk-treasurer's office.
Former Mayor David Burgio, a member of the city Planning Commission, predicted earlier this month the proposal may face opposition from some neighbors.
Members of the Common Council, who have said they plan to hold a public hearing on the matter, wanted to meet with representatives of the United Church Home Society to get more information prior to such a hearing.
Also on tonight's agenda is a planned discussion with attorney David Slater, who has been asked to talk with city officials about potentially pursuing litigation on behalf of the city regarding a proposed wetland delineation.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation has proposed adding about 30 acres of wetlands near Erie Avenue and Walck Road, a plan which would affect a proposed patio home subdivision and the planned expansion of Twin City Ambulance. Read a previous story on the wetlands issue here.
Slater is scheduled to start meeting with city officials at 6 p.m.
Tonight's meeting, like all work sessions, is open to the public.
