The big 2008 food story
In my column today, I discussed some of the big food stories of 2008, according to a New York City marketing firm, anyway. I also noted that it wasn't the happiest year. Some of the stories suggested were grim. Really grim.
Food editors get this list annually and vote on which stories they think are the most significant. My choice concerned rising food prices, but there were others equally scary, too.
So now I"m asking you: what national food story did you think was the most important in the last 12 months? Read the column to get some ideas and let me know what you think.

For my wife and myself, the biggest food story of the year has yet to appear in The Buffalo News (at least not to my knowledge). The closing of our favorite restaurant, Amaryllis, was a shock and a sad reminder of the state of the national economy. Amaryllis was, in our opinion, one of the best restaurants in the city. In fact, when we were in the mood to go out to eat, we rarely went anywhere else, as not much could compare to their food. I hope that in time the chef/owner will make another go of it on the Buffalo scene, although the new business frontier is not exactly ripe for the picking. Sigh, we will miss you Amaryllis...

Amaryllis was our favorite too! Had been hoping to have an anniversary dinner there. Had to settle for Rue...good, but not as good as Amaryllis would have been. Does anyone know if/where Jennifer is now?
