Extension of Remarks: Hope for a healthy tomorrow

Oh, dear. The lead editorial in today's Buffalo News refers to the last-minute rescue of the Kaleida Health-ECMC combination as "the easy part."
All that’s left is to do it. This work could last for decades. It will cost tens of millions of dollars, and Kaleida_head more difficult arguments will no doubt ensue. It is to be hoped, fervently, that Ecmc past contentiousness doesn’t get in the way of future partnerships. But there is now a mechanism for resolving those differences, and with that, reason to believe in better days.

It has to help that, also in today's News, is the story about how Western New York has been rated the No. 1 market in the nation for the value of its hospital care. It's a calculation called the Hospital Value Index, put together by a health care data number-crunching outfit called Data Advantage.

Value isn't the same as quality. But it joins such things as affordable housing prices and a legacy of parks and architecture in helping to boost the region's image, and self-image. And that's gotta be good for what ails anyone.
