Recommended reading - two good blogs
There are a couple of blogs dealing with the economy that are worth reading.
Clawback is produced by Greg LeRoy and his team at Good Jobs First. I've interviewed Greg on numerous ocassions over the years and he is one of the leading experts in the nation on subsidy programs. Good Jobs First, based in Washington, D.C., with an offshoot in New York, does sound research and analysis. They've got a point of view, but they back it up with hard data and sound analysis.
Dirt Digger's Digest, is produced by one of Greg's colleagues, Philip Mattera. It's got a broader scope, dealing with corporate malfeasnace.

I have responded on Greg Leroy's blog re the Amherst IDA's "opposition" to clawbacks as well. The Amherst IDA board vote against imposing clawbacks was based on the fact that the Agency has no clear and unambiguous criteria developed to determine when and if such a mechanism would be imposed. The person making the resolution was asked to amend it allowing discussion to be held re: criteria BEFORE adopting his resolution and he refused to amend it. Therefore the resolution was defeated. If the IDAs in Erie County decide to impose clawbacks it will be based on clear, concise, unambiguous criteria to determine when to impose them.
