James J. Eagan is letting the world know he remains very much a candidate for the chairmanship of the Erie County Democratic Party.
Eagan, a financial consultant and Democratic fundraiser who is also a commissioner of the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority, is inviting the approximately 2,000 Democratic committee members to a reception at Statler City from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
"I'm reaching out to the base -- the foundation of the party," he said. "So I invited all 2,000 of them to meet me at the Statler."
The contest to succeed Leonard R. Lenihan as chairman of the party remains unsettled as Eagan competes against Jereny J. Zellner, Marc C. Panepinto and Frank C. Max Jr.
Eagan, who served as a top fundraiser for County Executive Mark C. Poloncarz, is emphasizing his experience in raising political money.
The county Democratic Committee is expected to meet on Sept. 29 to elect a new chairman.
