A new poll shows Rep. Louise M. Slaughter, D-Fairport, regaining a significant lead in her tough battle against Republican challenger Maggie Brooks.
The Siena Research Institute reported Thursday that Slaughter now leads Brooks 52 to 42 percent, a substantial change from the 49 to 44 percent measurement taken in mid-October.
"Over the last two weeks Slaughter has regained the momentum and extended her lead over Brooks back to 10 points," said Siena spokesman Steven A. Greenberg. "Although Brooks maintains the support of approximately three-quarters of Republicans and continues to have a small lead among independents, Slaughter is crushing Brooks among Democrats -- who have a nine-point enrollment edge -- by a whopping 82 to 12 [percent] margin."
Greenberg also said Slaughter continues with a strong favorability rating of 57 percent, compared to 47 percent for Brooks.
