ALBANY – Gov. Andrew Cuomo this week will begin a statewide television advertising campaign touting his 2013 state budget plans and urging residents to push lawmakers to embrace his ideas.
The ad campaign, to cost several hundred thousand dollars in the initial buy, will discuss his plans for economic development, holding the line on new tax increases and various investment efforts, an aide said Wednesday.
The ad will be paid for partially by Cuomo’s 2014 campaign – which has $22 million in the bank – and the New York State Democratic Committee, which has $217,000 on hand in is central campaign account.
“Certainly, we need to make public the good things the state party and the governor is doing, because it’s great work,’’ said Assemblyman Keith Wright, a Manhattan Democrat and co-chairman of the state party.
Wright said he did not know details about the ad campaign, except that it is coming soon.
It remains uncertain if the Committee to Save New York, a pro-Cuomo support group that spent in excess of $10 million on advertising campaigns in the past pumping up Cuomo’s name and policies, will enter the pro-Cuomo ad time as it has the past two years. (The committee’s donor list, kept secret, will now have to be disclosed.)
A spokesman said the group would share its plans “when we have something to say.’’
UPDATE: A source this evening provided details on what shows to be a $401,000 ad buy placed by the state Democratic Party. About $40,000 will be purchased on Buffalo stations, and $129,000 will go into the New York City marketplace on both broadcast and cable stations there. Ad buys in Albany, Syracuse, Binghamton and Rochester also all total about $40,000 apiece.
