ALBANY -- The Senate's top Republican said talks are proceeding on a gun control package but that his members will not be sticking around Albany this week in anticipation of a vote.
"They're going home,'' Senate co-leader Dean Skelos, a Long Island Republican, said of senators.
Skelos, who stood out by remaining seated in his chair when other state government leaders on stage were applauding Gov. Andrew Cuomo's remarks about strengthening gun control laws during this afternoon's State of the State, said negotiators are making "tremendous progress'' over a gun package.
"I'm optimistic we'll come up with something,'' Skelos said in an interview.
