Voters in the County Legislature's District 5 may face a Republican primary featuring two names well known in Amherst politics.
Former Council Member Shelly Schratz said she will run for the seat now held by Democrat Thomas A. Loughran, and will even consider a primary against fellow Republican Robert Anderson -- the Amherst highway superintendent and declared candidate -- if necessary.
"I'll do whatever I need to do," she said.
Schratz has run unsuccessfully for the Legislature in two previous elections, and for county clerk as well. But she said she learned from the experiences, and believes "this is a good year."
Erie County Republicans are expected to convene an endorsement meeting for the post soon, where Schratz said she will challenge Anderson for the party nod.
