Casino developer quickly rejoices

By Tom Precious

ALBANY -- The winner of the award for the first response dispatched to reporters on tonight's New York casino referendum approval: A Native American-owned casino in Connecticut.

From Scott Butera, president of Foxwoods Resort and Casino: "Now that New York State voters have decided to fully embrace the economic benefits of casino gaming, we look forward to seeking a license to bring the same type of full service destination resort casino to the Catskills that we’ve created in Connecticut.''

The casino, owned by the Mashantucket Pequot tribe, is one of several development groups that will be competing to win a Catskills casino license.
