Former Cheektowaga Councilman Jeff Swiatek said today he will not run for the Assembly seat vacated Sunday by veteran lawmaker Dennis H. Gabryszak.
Swiatek, who acknowledged he had been encouraged to run by several top Democrats, said he seriously considered the offers over the weekend. But he said he decided he will continue to concentrate on his law practice as a Hodgson Russ partner.
"I really enjoy what I do, and that's working with municipalities every day," he said, adding he feels he is will continue to make contributions to the community through his law practice.
Others mentioned as possible Gabryszak successors include Lancaster Councilwoman Donna Stempniak, who expressed interest for the seat n 2006; Lancaster Councilman Ron Ruffino; Cheektowaga Councilman James Rogowski, and political operative Kristy Mazurek.
Meanwhile, Sens. Patrick M. Gallivan and Timothy M. Kennedy, who both represent parts of the Gabryszak district, encouraged constituents of the 143rd Assembly District to bring government-related concerns to their offices.
