Morning Links: Britney Spears released from psych ward

Britney Spears was released from the psych ward at the UCLA Medical Center yesterday afternoon with little fanfare after being treated at the facility for seven days. Doctors at the UCLA Medical Center, according to People, wanted her to stay at the facility, but the court declared -- after a rep interviewed both Spears and medical personnel -- that there was "no just cause" for her to remain, and ordered she be allowed to leave.

Spears was said to have met with her business manager and attorneys upon being discharged, with boyfriend Adnan Ghalib in tow.

Spears' parents Jamie and Lynne released a statement to CNN's Anderson Cooper, which in part read:

"As parents of an adult child in the throws of a mental health crisis, we were extremely disappointed this morning to learn that over the recommendation of her treating psychiatrist, our daughter Britney was released from the hospital that could best care for her and keep her safe. We are deeply concerned about our daughter's safety and vulnerability and we believe her life is presently at risk."

There is little doubt that there will be action in the courts of L.A. as Britney tries to wrest control of her life back, while her father tries to enforce to conservatorship he was awarded to try to minimize the chaos in her life.

The toxicology reports are back, and it is official: Heath Ledger died of an accidental overdose and lethal combination of prescription drugs. Six prescription drugs were found in his system, including oxycodone, hydrocodone, diazepam, temazepam, alprazolam and doxylamine. The combination of painkillers, anti-anxiety drugs and sleeping pills caused "acute intoxication" and led to the actors death.

The NYPD and DEA are set to begin a joint investigation into how Ledger was able to acquire so many different prescription drugs and determine if anything criminal took place.

It remains to be seen whether Lindsay Lohan has learned anything from all of the negative press she's gotten, plus all of the life-lessons to be learned from Spears to Ledger, but she tells Harper's Bazaar magazine:

"When I look back on this last year, it's like, what was I thinking? ... I've learned so much, though, like learning to live my life a different way ... and I wasn't taking the time to feel my feelings."

She says at 21, it is hard to resist a party, but that she finds enjoyment now in quiet time at home, too. The interview will hit the stands February 19th.

In a re-casting, Val Kilmer will be the voice of super-car KITT in the new version of NBC's "Knight Rider." Previously announced was Will Arnett of "Arrested Development" fame, who has a brilliant, deep voice that was perfect for the role. But, it seems Arnett's voice over work for General Motors is a conflict, because KITT is a Ford Mustang this time around, instead of a Chevrolet Camaro, which was used in the 1980s version.
