Morning Links: Sean Penn files for separation from wife

Sean Penn has filed for a legal separation from wife Robin Wright Penn, despite a reconciliation. The couple began divorce proceedings in December 2007, but withdrew the papers four months later. Penn is seeking joint custody of the couple's children, and asking the court to award no spousal support to his actress wife.

Jamie Lynn Spears' boyfriend Casey Aldridge was discharged from the ICU and walked for the first time since his pick-up truck flipped on Sunday in Louisiana. "He was a little wobbly because that's the first time he's been up since the wreck," a source close to the family told People.

Aldridge and three other passengers were ejected from the vehicle during the accident, which reportedly occurred while he was driving home from a bachelor party.

Liev Shreiber missed the premiere of the new X-Men film because his 21-month-old son with actress Naomi Watts was rushed to the hospital with respiratory problems. "Sasha got home today and is feeling much better after being hospitalized ..." Schreiber's rep said.

Hugh Hefner is denying rumors that he is pining for ex-girlfriend Holly Madison, who was said to be his true love. Hef says, "The notion that I would want her back as a girlfriend is bizarre. ... I am now in one of the best relationships in memory with Crystal Harris and the twins. ... I'm not going to screw it up with former girlfriends."

Redmond O'Neal, the son of Farrah Fawcett and Ryan O'Neal, pleaded not guilty in a Santa Clarita, Calif., court to a felony heroin charge. The younger O'Neal was arrested in early April for possession of narcotics and for bringing narcotics into a jail facility. O'Neal and a friend were visiting an L.A.-area jail when a routine search discovered the heroin in his car.

Elizabeth Edwards has written a book, where she says that her presidential hopeful husband John's admission that he had an affair made her sick to her stomach. Edwards writes, "I cried and screamed, I went to the bathroom and threw up." The terminally il Edwards has written "Resilience," which will hit the streets on May 12.

Christina Applegate is on the cover of People's new Most Beautiful People issue. The star of Samantha Who? has recovered from breast cancer and reconstructive surgery, and is on a hit series on the ABC network.

Tyra Banks testified in a Manhattan court yesterday in a case against a man accused of stalking her. The accused stalker, Brady Green, is charged with stalking, harassment and criminal trespassing. In 2008, Green allegedly tried to infiltrate the security of the studio where her talk show is hosted. Security kept her secure in her dressing room as Green was apprehended.

Morning Links: Sarah Jessica, Matthew Broderick having twins with a surrogate

Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick, who have seen rumors about the state of their marriage, will become the parents of twin girls "later this summer with the generous help of a surrogate," says their spokesman, adding, "The entire family is overjoyed." Parker and Broderick are the parents of a son, James Wilkie, 6. A source close to the couple says they have been trying to add to their family for some time, and finally decided a surrogate was "the best way to go."

Also dogged by rumors after he was named as the "other man" in a New Jersey couple's divorce case, Bruce Springsteen brought out his "lovely wife" Patty Scialfa and kissed her onstage at the Film Society of Lincoln Center's Gala Tribute to Tom Hanks. The two then played and sang "Philadelphia," the Oscar-winning Springsteen tune that was the title song of the film for which Hanks won his first Best Actor Oscar.

Chris Brown's scheduled appearance in court today on his felony battery charges is not expected to end in a plea bargain, says TMZ.com, but the victim, ex-girlfriend Rihanna, is hoping to get back the jewelry she was wearing to the pre-Grammy party when she was attacked. The bling is being held as evidence, but it was borrowed and the jeweler says she can either hand it over or pay for it. Oh, and it's worth a cool $1.4 million.

Former manager Sam Lutfi was ordered Tuesday to stay away from Britney Spears for three years, as was attorney Jon Eardley, who has challenged the validity of Britney's father Jamie's conservatorship over her affairs. The pair must stay away from Britney, her sons and her family member's homes, but have not been barred from contacting the singer's mother Lynne, which Jamie had requested. Lutfi plans to appeal the order. His lawyer said, "Never before in history has a restraining order been issued against someone who answered another person's cries for help."

Prosecutors in the Bahamas say they intend to call John Travolta to the witness stand in the extortion case against a former senator and a paramedic who treated Travolta's son Jett around the time of Jett's death. The case against ex-senator Pleasant Bridgewater and paramedic Tarino Lightbourne is scheduled to begin Sept. 21. They are accused of demanding $25 million or they would reveal embarrassing details about Jett Travolta's death on Jan. 2. The two pleaded not guilty in court.

The secret is out -- "American Idol" contestant Adam Lambert is way ahead. In the downloads of his songs on iTunes, that is. Lambert holds six of the top 10 spots, with his version of "Mad World" topping the mistakenly revealed chart. Kris Allen holds three of the remaining four spots, and Danny Gokey has the final one, his rendition of "Endless Love."

Tonight, the remaining five contestants take on songs of the Rat Pack. I have an idea this type of song is a natural for Danny Gokey, while Kris Allen and Matt Giraud may struggle to distinguish themselves and Allison Iraheta may take a change on a funky arrangement. While it's hardly a natural type of song for Adam Lambert, I'm convinced he'll have no trouble being the dinner-jacket-wearing suave guy again. Oh, and singing pretty well, too!

Morning Links: Slumdog romance blossoming

The stars of Slumdog Millionaire have taken their romance from the screen to real life. Dev Patel and Freida Pinto played love interests in the film, and have been on a whirl wind ride since the movie won big at the Academy Awards. Patel's mother tells the British tabloid, the Daily Mirror, that they are a couple.

"Life can't get any better for him. Freida is really beautiful, and I am really happy for them," Mrs. Patel said.

Last week, Patel flew to Israel, where Pinto in filming a movie, further stoking speculation that the pair are a couple. The two were seen by kissing at a seaside restaurant and Pinto was said to be unable to keep her hands to herself, being affectionate with Patel in public, also lending credence to the couple speculation.

Tonight Show host Jay Leno returned to the show last night, after briefly being hospitalized with what his rep called dehydration. Leno joked: "What happened was -- and I think this was a mistake -- I ate a raw pig a friend brought back from Mexico," referring to the current swine flu scare.

Speaking of swine flu, the new X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie had its Mexican premiere canceled due to fears of the swine flu. The film is still set to open on Thursday, but the big star-studded premiere is a no-go, for now. But star Hugh Jackman tells E! News that the cast still wants to come to Mexico for promotion and tells them to "Hang in there."

Casey Aldridge was expected to be moved from the ICU on Monday, according to People. Aldridge was involved in an auto accident over the weekend, flipping his pick-up truck in Louisiana, and suffered a head injury. Aldridge is the boyfriend of Jamie Lynn Spears and the father of her daughter.

Snoop Dogg, aka Calvin Broadus, appeared on the stand in his on-going civil trial and denied that he physically assaulted a Seattle fan with a brass knuckle microphone during a 2005 concert. Snoop is being sued for $22 million, but the fan brought it on himself by jumping on the stage prompting bodyguards and Snoop, himself, to take a cautionary and defensive stance.

"The best way for the injuries not to have occurred [was] for him to stay in his seat and enjoy the show like the rest of the fans," Snoop said.

Rock band Creed has reunited for a new album, after six-years of inactivity from the band. Lead singer Scott Stapp was the force behind the reunion, telling his former bandmates, "I love you and if I've ever caused you any pain in your life forgive me," referring to his battle with drugs during the band's heyday.

Simon Cowell thinks that the American Idol finale will feature Adam Lambert and Danny Gokey, telling Entertainment Tonight,  "I would like to see Adam and Danny because I think they are the best two singers, and at the end of the day that is what should happen.” But he leaves the door open for someone else to unseat Gokey before the finale. But he is sure Adam will be there.

Morning Links: Made-over Susan Boyle could lose, Simon Cowell warns

While "Britain's Got Talent" singing sensation Susan Boyle is busy transforming herself into a stylish, attractive woman, complete with chestnut hair and a Burberry scarf, Simon Cowell warns that she could lose the finals because she has "so many distractions" now as she prepares for the next round of the show. The finale will air May 24. Her older brother Gerard says the pressure of being in the public eye is hurting his sister, and she should skip the contest and go right into the studio to make a record.

Meanwhile, the U.K.'s Mirror has unearthed a video of Susan singing "I Don't Know How to Love Him" from "Jesus Christ Superstar" at her parents' 50th wedding anniversary some 25 years ago. The sound isn't the best, and the video is complete with smirking kids, but the crowd in the pub is utterly quiet as her voice soars.

Casey Aldridge, the father of Jamie Spears' baby, 10-month-old Maddie, was hospitalized in stable condition Sunday after being injured in a truck crash over the weekend. Jamie was reportedly at Casey's side in the hospital, where, an Aldridge family member said he is being treated for "a cracked skull." Police said three of the five people in Casey's truck when it flipped over were ejected, including him, and he was charged with a misdemeanor, careless operation of a motor vehicle.

Bea Arthur, beloved for her gravel-voiced straight-talking characters in "Maude" and "The Golden Girls," as well as roles in "Fiddler on the Roof" and "Mame" on Broadway, died Saturday at age 86. One of her "Golden Girls" co-stars, Rue McClanahan, told TMZ, "Thirty-seven years ago she showed me how to be very brave in playing comedy. I'll miss that courage and I'll miss that voice."

Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt of "The Hills" seem to be married for real this time, as 200 guests watched while they said their vows over the weekend at a church in Pasadena. Their reception afterward featured spring colors. The wedding was taped and will be televised on "The Hills." The two had been married before in Mexico, but it was unclear whether that marriage was legal. The two will appear on the reality show, "I'm a Celebrity .. Get Me Out of Here!" which will premiere in June.

Also remarrying in a weekend of celebrations were Salma Hayek and Henri Pinault, the parents of Valentina Paloma, 19 months, who was a flower girl. The black-tie wedding in Venice was attended by French president Jacques Chirac, Penelope Cruz, Edward Norton, Woody Harrelson, Olivier Martinez, Luis Miguel, Ashley Judd, Charlize Theron, Stuart Townsend, Bono, Gael García Bernal, Enrique Murciano, David Blaine and Anna Wintour.

Miley Cyrus has written in her Twitter page that she is not back with ex Nick Jonas, although she says he's "so lovely." But she says she's still with boyfriend Justin Gaston, whom she calls "an amazing person. He always makes me laugh and has a heart of gold."

People are still buzzing about the photo Oprah released to prove that her hair is real and not a weave. After fans complimented her on her fake hair, Ms. O proved that it's all hers.

Morning Links: Jay Leno hospitalized for 'mild' illness, misses show

Jay Leno missed last night's Tonight Show because he was hospitalized with what was described as a "mild" illness that struck him in the middle of the afternoon. No details of the illness were given, but Access Hollywood reported that it was caused by food poisoning. He's also expected to miss tonight's taping, a rep says.

In an interview with Rachael Ray that will air today, Jennifer Lopez says that her 14-month-old daughter has inherited plenty of her mom's diva attitude. "We call her Emme-tude because we're like, 'She's giving us Emme-tude right now,'" Lopez says. "She gets that from her dad. I'm kidding -- she gets that from me."

The director of "Chloe," the movie Liam Neeson was making when his wife Natasha Richardson died after a skiing accident, says Neeson wanted to return to work right after burying his wife. "He called me and said, 'You know, let's do it right away.' It was really emotional," Atom Egoyan told ET Canada. "Liam is heroic," Egoyan said.

A doctor who looked at recent photos of a Lindsay Lohan says she looks dangerously thin, and the star, who is 5-foot-5, probably weighs at most 100 pounds. Dr. Kent Holtorf says Lindsay should gain at least 10 pounds. "There are signs of muscle wastage, clearly her bones are protruding and she looks quite rigid," Holtorf said. "She looks like skin and bones at this point, Lindsay clearly looks malnourished and unhealthy for her frame." In a frank interview with Ellen DeGeneres on her show, LiLo said she was shocked when Samantha Ronson left her. "I had no idea what was going on," she told Ellen. "I hadn't seen her in, like, a week. She, like, disappeared."

Susan Boyle, the "Britain's Got Talent" Internet sensation, now says that her remark that she'd "never been married, never been kissed .. Oooh, shame!" was a joke. She told Simon Cowell's ex, Terri Seymour, "I've got a wicked sense of humor." And although she said she wouldn't let fame change her, she is looking much different, sporting a new, trendier wardrobe, arched eyebrows and a new hair color.

Hayden Panettiere returned from vacation to find that some $15,000 worth of her jewelryhad taken a walk from her Los Angeles home. There were apparently no signs of forced entry, and several people were in the house while she was away.

It wasn't announced Wednesday night, but the remaining five "American Idol" contestants will sing "standards made famous by members of the original Rat Pack," which includes Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop. On Wednesday night's results show, Taylor Hicks will perform his new single, "Seven Mile Breakdown."

Morning Links: Slumdog father cleared by police

The father of Slumdog Millionaire star Rubina Ali has been cleared of charges that he tried to sell his daughter to an undercover reporter, posing as a wealthy sheik. Rafiq Qureshi insists that the story of him attempting to sell his daughter into adoption for $300,000 was "a lie made up by foreign journalists playing games..." 

"So far there is no evidence of any offense, hence there is no registration of complaint and no arrest," Nisar Tamboli, a Mumbai senior police officer said.

The family is already being aided by Slumdog Millionaire producers, but is willing to accept further financial help, however, the girl's education is being sponsored by a trust from the Arab emirate of Qatar.

American Idol judge Kara DioGuardi tells Extra that she struggled with an eating disorder when she was younger. "I had kind of a binge eating disorder where instead of dealing with my emotions, I would stuff them down with food. ... I actually went into a treatment center for it." DioGuardi says she used music as her outlet to deal with emotions, and has recently built a recording studio in a Los Angeles treatment center that helps addicts heal through music.

Jumping on the 2nd wedding bandwagon is Salma Hayek who was married on Valentines's Day in Paris' City Hall to Francois-Henri Pinault. Hayek is planning a 2nd ceremony this weekend in Venice at Palazzo Grassi, a palace built in the 1700s and owned by the Pinault family since 2006. Stars planning to attend include Antonio Banderas, Melanie Griffith, Penelope Cruz and Luis Miguel.

John Travolta, still in mourning the death of son, Jett, took a solo jaunt to Tahiti for a solitary retreat at a posh hotel. Travolta reportedly told the hotel manager, "I don't want to see anyone. I only want to rest."

Limp Bizkit front-man Fred Durst announced on his Twitter page that he has become engaged. Durst popped the question to girlfriend Esther Nazarov last week, and announced a July ceremony.

The widow of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry set up a multi-million dollar trust for her dogs to live in the lap of luxury after she died. Majel Barrett Roddenberry passed away in December after battling leukemia, and reportedly left $4 million for her dogs to remain in a luxurious life under the care of longtime caretaker, Reinelda Estupinian, who also gets $1 million and residential rights to the home.

Regis Philbin will be returning to Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? this summer to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the quiz show. Philbin will appear on 11 episodes to air in August.

In our poll, voters picked Lil Rounds as the favorite to go with 89 percent. Matt Giraud got 42 percent "go" votes, while Anoop got 41 percent. Then it was a big drop to Kris Allen with 8u percent, and Adam, Allison and Kris tied for last with 5 percent each.

As we predicted she would, Lil got the boot. Then Allison and Anoop were poised on the golf tees of danger, and after we listened to an unintentionally hilarious medley of disco hits from the semi-well-preserved icons who sang them in the 1970s, Anoop got the boot.
