Morning Links: Jon Gosselin says he's sorry to Hailey Glassman, plans public apology at synogogue Sunday
It was a day of spin control for Jon Gosselin, who got battered pretty well Wednesday by his new paramour, Hailey Glassman,who called him "emotionally abusive." Gosselin apologized in a statement to the show "The Insider," which reported Glassman's complaints. "My girlfriend, Hailey Glassman, has paid a significant price to live under such a media microscope,” Gosselin said. "I am grateful for her emotional support and I regret any pain that my actions have caused her as she has selflessly borne the pressures I have endured under the media glare. I am committed to making things right with Hailey as well as Kate and especially my children. I ask you to please give me the opportunity to prove myself."
And after bogus -- but somehow plausible, given, well, everything! -- reports that Jon would collaborate in a reality TV program with Octomom Nadya Suleman, he issued a lengthy apologetic statement to E! News. While saying he was "troubled" about the "scurrilous rumor," he added, "I do however accept that some of my previous actions have ... lent credence to such outrageous stories ... I am well aware that my behavior over the past few months has not always reflected my personal and religious values." Gosselin says he will seek counseling from rabbi-to-the-stars Shmuley Boteach and also participate in a forum at New York's West Side Synagogue this Sunday, where he will "publicly apologize in a sacred place to those whom I have hurt."
Randy and Evi Quaid, shown at left in their bizarre booking photos, failed to appear in Santa Barbara Court again and an arrest warrant will now be issued for them, prosecutors say. It could take up to a month for the extradition papers to be prepared. The pair were arrested in their hometown of Marfa,Texas in September after they apparently left the San Ysidro Ranch after racking up a five-figure bill. But they're hardly keeping a low profile -- Radar Online reports that Evi showed up at city hall in Marfa earlier this week and caused a ruckus over permits needed for renovations at their warehouse-style home and over illegally parking their large truck outside their house. After the couple's arrest in September, she posted several large signs on the side of the truck accusing the local deputy who arrested her of taking bribes, and he is now suing her for defamation.
The Hollywood teenage "Burglar Bunch" suspected of breaking into the homes of Patris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Audrina Patridge may have had plans to go after other celebs. Photos found on the computer hard drive owned by gang member Nick Prugo included photos of Britney Spears, Bette Midler, Megan Fox, Jessica Biel, Shania Twain, Rihanna, Mariah Carey and Heidi Montag, all pictured wearing lots of jewelry. But one star whose photo was found, Hayden Panettiere, was actually hit by burglars in April -- burglars who took jewelry. Another photo found on the computer must have stung -- it shows gang member Courtney Ames laughing at a photo of Prugo in a magazine. She later joined him in jail.
The two young stars of "Slumdog Millionaire" are in danger of losing the trust funds set up for them by the movie's producers because they are skipping too much school. Fox News reports that Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail and Rubina Ali, who played the young Salim and young Latika in the Oscar-winning film, must have a 70 percent attendance rateto get the funds. Azhar is showing up at school 37 percent of the time and Rubina only 27 percent of the time. Noshir Dadrawala, who administers the Jai Ho Trust, says, "They are constantly going to Paris and Cochin and Chennai. That's fine, but go over the weekend, not at the sacrifice of school." The young actors' parents blame family deaths and illness for the missing days, and say they will attend more.

A Department of Justice investigator testified that a former nanny told him that Anna Nicole Smith's manager and psychiatrist forced drugs on the onetime Playboy Playmate, knocking her out for days at a time and leaving her to soil her bed. Department of Justice Investigator Danny Santiago testified that Anna Nicole's former nanny, Nadine Alexie, told him she witnessed Howad K. Stern and Dr. Khristne Eroshevich forcing drugs on Anna Nicole. Outside court, Erosevich's attorney said the testimony was based on "wild exaggerations."
The father of Nicholas Cage, August Coppola, has died of a heart attack at age 75. Coppola, the brother of filmmaker Francis Ford Coppola, taught literature and served as dean of creative arts at San Francisco State University.

The thing that facinates me is not Jon Gosslin, but rather why anybody would be interested in empty personalities like him.
Who is he? What has he done? Why the fasination? He is not handsome, he has obvious medical issues (puffiness), he has no talents that I can detect. Which group of people are interested in him? Are they tweens? Is it a sympathy thing? Is there some unspoken illness? How old are his fans? What do their conversations sound like? My mailman has more personality then this guy. I don't get it.
You could name any number of celebs who advocate important issues or have thoughtful ideas to share. This guy is an empty suit. Who are these people who are riveted to his every move? And for goodness sake, tell me why????????? I try to be hip to trends, but I have never felt so out of it.
