Morning Links: Roman Polanski receives bail; may be released as early as Monday

Roman Polanski Roman Polanski was granted bail Wednesday for a mere $4.5 million, and is expected to be confined to his home with electronic monitoring. A Swiss judge, however, says not to expect his release until at least Monday.

Polanski was said to have used his Paris apartment to raise money for bail, but the director's home confinement would be at his chalet in the Swiss resort town of Gstaad. Polanski is still considered a high flight risk, so he would be under "constant electronic surveillance" at his home with an alarm being activated if he leaves the premises or takes off the bracelet.

The judge who granted bail wrote in his ruling, "The 76-year-old appellant is married and the father of two minors. It can be assumed that as a responsible father he will, especially in view of his advanced age, attach greater importance to the financial security of his family than a younger person."

The Swiss Justice Ministry is still trying to decide whether to extradite Polanski to the U.S. where he would be sentenced after 31 years as a fugitive.

A rep from CBS tried to explain why "The Early Show" blurred the video of Adam Lambert kissing his male keyboardist at the American Music Awards when television shows didn't blur the video of Madonna kissing Britney Spears at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards. "We gave this some real thought. The Madonna image is very familiar and has appeared countless times including many times on morning television. The Adam Lambert image is a subject of great current controversy, has not been nearly as widely disseminated, and for all we know, may still lead to legal consequences."

Jermaine Jackson spoke at an L.A. event earlier this week where he defended brother Michael against the molestation charges that first arose in 1993. The father who accused Jackson of molesting his son committed suicide last week. Jackson points to Evan Chandler's suicide as proof that Michael was innocent, and that the act of suicide was due to a guilty conscience for falsely accusing the late pop star.
