Morning Links: Beauty queen who accused David Copperfield of rape is charged with prostitution

Laceycarroll The beauty queen who accused David Copperfield of sexually assaulting her is facing charges of her own. Lacey Carroll, who accused Copperfield of raping her on his private island in 2007, has been indicted on charges of making a false statement to a public servant and prostitution. The Bellevue City Prosecutor's Office in Washington filed charges against her in connection with a Dec. 2, 2009, incident in which she went to a hotel room with a man she knew from the bar where she worked. In the room, he said she told him, "Put $2,000 in my purse and you can have it all." The man says when he refused to fork over the money, she told police he had forced himself upon her. She later refused to cooperate with police because she felt the claim against the man would "tarnish [her] other case" against Copperfield. Copperfield's attorney, Patty Eakes, said, "These developments vindicate Mr. Copperfield and confirm what he has said all along -- this woman tried to extort money from him by making a false claim." Carroll was first runner-up in the 2010 Miss Washington USA pageant.

Ellen DeGeneres is on a tight schedule, taping both her talk show and "American Idol" on some days. So when she taped her show early and arrived on set of Idol for the first day of the Hollywood rounds, she was reportedly furious when Simon Cowell showed up 90 minutes late. A source told Deadline.com, "Here it was the first day of taping of the Hollywood shows, and Ellen was there waiting for Simon to show up. Ellen's new to the gig and she's very organized and she made a commitment to take this on, and now she's asking herself, 'What did I get myself into?' She called Simon Cowell a prima donna. So right from the start, the chemistry isn't great."

The web site Deadline.com also reports that the first choice of "American Idol" to succeed Cowell is former Sony music chief Tommy Mottola, Mariah Carey's controlling ex-husband who was also the controversial boss of Michael Jackson and George Michael. But sources say Cowell has also designated Mottola as first choice to be a judge on his new American "X Factor" show. Idol's second choice is said to be Guy Oseary, Madonna's longtime business partner who organized both her top-grossing 2006 Confessions Tour and 2008 Sticky & Sweet Tour.

Denise Richards said the situation between her ex-husband Charlie Sheen and his current wife, Brooke Mueller, is "sad," but may shed light on the battles she had with Sheen during and after their marriage. "Perhaps people can understand what I went through," she said, when Sheen pushed and shoved her during their marriage. Richards says she and Sheen are now "in a great place" after their work with a mediator. In an appearance Tuesday on the Oprah Winfrey Show, she says she and Sheen had an early New Year's Eve dinner together, along with her father. The pair have two daughters, Sam, 5, and Lola, 4. Richards says she decided not to tell their daughters on Christmas that their dad's phone call came from jail in Aspen, Colo., after an altercation with his wife, but Richards eventually had to tell them when a kindergarten classmate asked Sam if her dad was still in jail.

Brooke Mueller was released from a Los Angeles hospital Monday after being treated for an infection and pneumonia following oral surgery to remove wisdom teeth. Her lawyer, Yale Galanter, told TMZ his client is "OK, not great ... I'm still very concerned about her." He says she still has fluid in her lungs from the pneumonia. Brooke's mother, Moira Fiore, said she is looking for a spa where Mueller can get therapy and recover from the stress that is believed to have compromised her body's ability to fight infection. The couple's twin sons, Max and Bob, are staying with Sheen while she recovers. The order of protection that keeps Sheen away from Mueller, which was suspended so he could visit her in the hospital, has been reinstated, People says. The two will appear in court on Feb. 8, when the order may be modified.

Kourtneyokcover  Kourtney Kardashian looks great on the cover of OK magazine, cradling her newborn Kourtneyoriginal son Mason and already showing off a slender body and face, but Kardashian herself says the photo is heavily doctored and many of the facts in the "body after baby" article are wrong. “They doctored and Photoshopped my body to make it look like I have already lost all the weight, which I have not,” Kardashian told WWD. She also spoke out to her Twitter followers: “One of those weeklies got it wrong again…they didn’t have an exclusive with me. And I gained 40 pounds while pregs, not 26...But thanks!” The photo of Kardashian and Mason was taken seven days after his birth, and the original, right, which appeared on the cover of Life & Style Jan. 11, shows her with a fuller face and belly. An OK spokesman declined comment to WWD.

A man who ran a cattle investment scam suckered in Kiefer Sutherland for $869,000, prosecutors say. Michael Wayne Carr told Sutherland he planned to import steers from Mexico and sell them at a profit in the U.S., but the San Joaquin County D.A. says Carr sold cattle that he didn't own. Carr is charged with 12 felonies: five counts of grand theft, three counts of forgery, two counts of obtaining money by false pretenses, one count of embezzlement and one count of falsifying corporate books. He'll be in court on Feb. 8. EOnline says Sutherland was interested because he has a history of cattle ranching and was once competitive on the rodeo circuit.

A friend of 20 years is the second person to claim that Evi and Randy Quaid have been harassing her by phone. The friend, Anke Magussen, makes essentially the same claims as Becky Altringer, who once worked as a private investigator for the pair. Magussen said, "I'm scared. [Evi] has nothing to lose. She has nothing better to do than to harass people all day long. She watches everything and listens to everything. This morning I told her if she called me one more time I would call the police."

The spotlight has drifted away from Tila Tequila, so she's working to get that fixed -- by trying to peddle ultrasound photos of the baby she says she's now expecting. Tila says, "I hope it's a boy but I'm not gonna find out 'cause I don't wanna know. But if it's a boy the name is Jayden. A girl -- it's Violet." She says the father is "a Swedish man -- gorgeous."
