A smile to start the weekend: Cast your vote for the 'most awesomest thing ever'

Lots of things in life are awesome: The Internet, life itself, music and a nap rank right up there, according to the current voters on the web site http://mostawesomestthingever.com. In fact, those five, in that order (Internet before life!? Who knew?) are today's awesomest things. The ratings could change tomorrow, so get in there and cast your votes.

Here's how it works: Go to the web site, where you should click "100 Awesomest." (You'll also see a list of "93 Inadequatest," which include Kevin Federline, Glitter, the DMV and Ryan Seacrest, but we're trying to keep it positive here!) By clicking "100 Awesomest," you will be taken to a list of awesome things ranked. In the top 20 of all time are lightsabers (real), Leonardo da Vinci, chocolate, bacon, Mom, and take-out. OK, that's all interesting.

A lion Scroll down the page to the section that's enthusiastically named "Let's Do This!" Click there, and you will get to select from two strange and random things to decide which is the most awesome. Sample matchups included Codex Seraphinianus as Thing One vs. a lion as Thing Two. For those of us who don't want to throw away a vote because we've never heard of Codex Seraphinanus, there's a clickable button below each one that says "What is this?" Read, be educated and vote!

The Thing you choose smashes the other Thing off the screen and you see the rank of the winning Thing, so you'll know how many people agree and disagree with you. Wait a moment and the screen refreshes with two more Things.

Chicken and waffles Audrey Hepburn vs. a Nap. Miley Cyrus vs. Chicken and Waffles, left. A Velociraptor vs. Sushi. The Horsehead Nebula vs. Time-Lapse Photography. Ashton Kutcher vs. Oompa Loompas. The Earth's Atmosphere vs. Anime. Liquid vs. a Polo Shirt. The Balkan Peninsula vs. Chris Brown.

The selections are all safe for work, although if your boss finds you spending the afternoon voting, that might not be strictly true.

Make your voice heard, and have a great weekend!

Morning Links: Jenna Jameson, Tito Ortiz withdraw violence, drug abuse changes they made against each other

Jenna and tito kissing Former porn star Jenna Jameson and former UFC champ Tito Ortiz are both withdrawing the allegations they made that led to Ortiz's arrest for domestic violence Monday. Jameson, who said that Ortiz injured her arm when he threw her into a bathtub after she made a remark that wounded his ego, now says, "What actually happened has now been dramatically distorted and misinterpreted and remarks that both Tito and I made after the police arrived reflect the state of shock that we were both in." Ortiz is also reportedly backing off his allegation that Jameson is an OxyContin addict who hurt herself by falling while she was high after he confronted her about her drug abuse. Ortoz now reportedly claimed that he found two OxyContin pills and may have jumped to conclusions, and Jameson says the pills were very old, and she passed a drug test the day after the incident. Ortiz's lawyer, Chip Matthews, says the whole thing was "a big misunderstanding."

Sandra Bullock's son, Louis, adopted from New Orleans, will grow up with ties to the city, Bullock says in an exclusive interview with People, which broke the news about the January adoption. "New Orleans is his city, and he is going to know it inside and out," she says. "Without the spirit of the people who live there and take care of the city and honor its traditions, its love for music, its love for life, take those people out and you don't have why I love New Orleans so much." Bullock bought a home in the Garden District of New Orleans in September, a few months before deciding to "find our child in New Orleans." This week, a moving van was spotted moving furniture into the new house. After Hurricane Katrina, Bullock donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to Warren Easton Charter High School, the first public high school for boys in Louisiana. She also established a $10,000 college scholarship and used the New Orleans premiere of "The Blind Side" as a fundraiser to benefit the school.

Targos told police Chyna punched her in the face, dragged her by the hair, beat her with a wire hanger and threatened to kill her until she managed to escape the room and run down the street, where she found some police officers. Targos says she met with LAPD detectives later in the week to discuss the incident further. No arrests have been made.

Morning Links: Jesse James responds to divorce filing: 'It would be selfish not to let her go'

Jesse James Jesse James has responded to the news that Sandra Bullock has filed for divorce. In a statement, James says that he has a "huge hole" in his heart now that Bullock has filed the papers. "My whole life has been full of hard decisions," the statement reads.

"The decision to let my wife end our marriage, and continue the adoption of Louis on her own, has been the hardest. The love I have for Louis cannot be put to words. Not having him around to love and to hold has left a huge hole in my heart. Sandy is the love of my life, but considering the pain and devastation I have caused her, it would be selfish to not let her go," the statement continues.

James ends by saying, "I ask that you please do not judge Sandy for the things I have done. She has done no wrong. She played no part in any of this. She has been an amazing wife, mother, and best friend, for the over 6 years we have been together."

It is likely that Sandra Bullock's divorce proceedings will be quick and fairly uncomplicated, says a legal expert who spoke to People. Because Bullock and estranged husband Jesse James didn't have children, there is little chance that the proceedings will be messy. Also working in the favor of Bullock is the fact that despite a lack of prenuptial agreement, the state of Texas requires a couple be married for 10 years for one to claim spousal support. As a result, the process should be fairly straightforward and may even wrap up as quickly as two months, according to People's expert.

A spokesman for Bret Michaels revealed on the rocker's Facebook page that he's facing a new challenge. Tests have found that the brain hemorrhage Michaels suffered has caused hyponatremia, a lack of sodium  in the body that causes seizures. In the post, his spokesman didn't say whether Michaels had suffered any seizures as a result. "Michaels remains under 24-hour observation in the ICU and is in positive spirits. He is responding well to tests and treatments," his rep says. "Even though today was a minor setback, doctors remain hopeful for a full recovery." In addition to the hemorrhage, Michaels is also recovering from an emergency appendectomy, which was complicated by his lifelong Type 1 diabetes. "He will remain monitored closely by his medical team to make sure no complications occur from the diabetes," the reps say, adding that doctors are "hopeful that Bret will gradually improve as the blood surrounding the brain dissolves and is reabsorbed into his system, which can be a very painful recovery and take several weeks to months."

Ortiz's attorney, Chip Matthews, says the pair were arguing over her OxyContin addiction and that Jameson fell and hurt herself while she was drugged. Matthews also strongly denies that Ortiz struck Jameson, saying, "He did not put his hands on her, he did not hit her, he did not do anything to her." "It's become something iconic and represents not only the town but represents Hollywood dreams, and I think that's something worth preserving." A nonprofit land-conservation group was given the chance to buy the land for $12.5 million, but as the April 30 deadline approaches, the group was nearly $1 million short -- until Hef stepped in.

Morning Links: Michael Lohan threatens to get control of Lindsay, who is dumped from movie and dumps drink on ex

Lindsay lohan drunk Michael Lohan gave his daughter Lindsay an ultimatum -- he said he will take steps to get his daughter placed in a conservatorship -- similar to the one Brittany Spears' dad administers for her -- unless Lindsay agrees to sit down with him today. Michael Lohan's first demand was that if Lindsay and Ali met with him, he wouldn't go the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services and ask that Ali be removed from Lindsay's house, or ask a judge to place Lindsay under a conservatorship. A few days later, Michael Lohan added one participant to the father-daughters sit-down -- his attorney. He says he's hired Lisa Bloom, daughter of Gloria Allred, whom TMZ says "just happens to work for an entertainment TV show."

• • •

Meanwhile, Lindsay Lohan has been dumped from a movie because she's not "bankable," a source connected with the film's production tells TMZ. Lindsay was slated to star in "The Other Side," stars Woody Harrelson, Giovanni Ribisi, Dave Matthews and Alanis Morissette. David Michaels, the writer/director, tells TMZ, "Our team simply chose to move on from Lindsay and we'll soon be announcing a replacement." TMZ also points out an eerie coincidence: Lohan was offered the role after Brittany Murphy's death last year. The 23-year-old's most recent movie, "I Know Who Killed Me," earned her three Razzie awards for bad acting. But Robert Rodriguez, director of the thriller "Machete," which is scheduled for release later this year, praised Lohan's work as April Benz, the socialite daughter of the villain Michael Benz (Jeff Fahey).

• • •

And finally, after Lindsay reportedly threw a drink on ex-girlfriend Samantha Ronson in a Hollywood club, Ronson tweeted, "Just got a glass thrown at my head..... Hmmm- wonder who did it????" Witnesses say that Ronson was sitting at a table when Lindsay arrived "like a bat out of hell" and tossed the drink. "Everyone was shocked," a source told EOnline. "The night was going fine, and all of a sudden, for no apparent reason, Lindsay walked up and caused a huge scene." Later Lohan tweeted, "Last night-never again-believe it or not she's done with the club scene i've learned my lesson-sometime's it just takes a glimpse of reality."

Bret_michaels240 An update on the continued struggle of Bret Michaels was posted on his fan site Sunday, explaining that he remains in critical condition while doctors continue to attempt to find the source of the bleeding in his brain. "At this point Bret remains in ICU in critical condition," says the post on BretMichaels.com. "He is under 24 hour doctors care and supervision. We are hopeful that further tests will locate the source of the bleeding, which has still not been located. As we all know Bret is a fighter and we are hopeful that once all is complete the slurred speech, blurred vision and dizziness, etc., will be eliminated and all functions will return to normal." A day before hemorrhage, Michaels wrote on his Fancast blog, "I'm not 100% yet ... I have to get my blood sugar back in order, because it's been all over the place." The bleeding is typically caused when an undetected enlarged artery in the brain ruptures. Michaels, frontman for the band Poison and a contestant on "Celebrity Apprentice," was recovering from an emergency appendectomy when his brain started to bleed. He was injured onstage at the Tony Awards last year when a piece of scenery struck him in the head. Doctors sat neither those two incidents, nor his diabetes, could have caused the brain hemorrhage.

Smile to start the weekend: The many incarnations of the all-purpose 'Do not want'

"Do not want" is a subtle, succinct phrase that applies to so many elements of modern life. According to www.knowyourmeme.com, the phrase was fiorst seen on a strangely subtitled bootleg DVD of "Star Wars Episode III: The Revenge of the Sith," bought in Shanghai by blogger Jeremy Winterson. The title of the film, translated, was "Star War The Backstroke of the West," but that was just a start! Winterson posted screen shots of many of the subtitles, but the one that caught fire appeared on screen as Darth Vader screamed "NOOOOOO!" The translation, priceless in its specificity and understatement, was "DO NOT WANT."

As we enter a weekend where Sabres fans may again experience the usual DO NOT WANT, enjoy these other examples from www.icanhazcheezburger.com.

Lindsay-lohan-kobe-ali Michael Lohan convinced the L.A. County Sheriff's Department to go to his daughter Lindsay Lohan's house Thursday to check on the welfare of her 16-year-old sister, Ali, seen at far left with her sister. Deputies were apparently satisfied with her status and left Ali with Lindsay. TMZ reports that a source said Michael Lohan made a "compelling case" to deputies, saying that Ali was in danger because she had been in Lindsay's car when Lindsay drove back from the Coachella music and arts festival at speeds of 115 mph. After they left, leaving Ali with her sister, Lindsay tweeted, "i have no choice but to make this public, due to my sister's safety, as well as my own, "my ex-dad" just WALKED INTO MY APT like the devil's advocate with officers.... let's not forget, that my father KIDNAPPED me from a COURT ROOM when i was 4 years old and is CRAZY ... when will it ever end... it's been going on my whole life with him -- hasn't he caused enough pain?" Dina Lohan, Michael's ex-wife, told TMZ, "I was told by my attorneys not to speak because it is very serious and my ex could be in big trouble.  He's dangerous.... If he can't get to them he is going to try to hurt them -- it's not good." But Michael Lohan promises he won't leave Los Angeles "until Ali is removed from Lindsay's home and has a normal life of a 16-year-old."

Meanwhile, Lindsay Lohan is getting one more chance to show up for her deposition in the lawsuit filed against her for a reckless, drunken driving incident in 2007. She has so far skipped three scheduled depositions, but the paperwork filed Thursday asking the judge to issue a judgment against her was flawed. Her attorney promises that she will show up at the next date, May 4, to tell her side of the story. The suit was filed by passengers in an SUV she commandeered and used to chase a car being driven by the mother of her assistant on the Pacific Coast Highway, as well as a passenger of the car she was chasing. She was drunk and had cocaine in her pocket at the time of the chase.."

And finally, police say Lindsay is a suspect in the disappearance of a $35,000 Rolex that was accidentally left at her house by a friend earlier this year. Sources say that police have photos that prove Lindsay knows where the Rolex is -- and they stopped at her house Wednesday to question her about the watch. She reportedly denied any knowledge of where it is. Lindsay's lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, tells TMZ, "The allegations are completely untrue." It does sound familiar: Back in 2008, a college student accused Lohan of stealing her $12,000 mink coat from a nightclub after she saw photos of Lohan wearing the distinctive coat around town. The coat was returned to the student after she sued Lohan.

Jon Gosselin has fired attorney Anthony List, who filed suit in early April calling Kate an "absentee mom" and demanding primary custody for Jon. Now Gosselin tells TMZ, "I never wanted primary custody, he [attorney Anthony List] filed for that. I only wanted a more flexible custody schedule so I could be with my kids." Gosselin is also said to be annoyed that List spoke to the media. But List says, "Jon signed off on everything." Gosselin says he wants to pay child support, but "just can't afford the $22,000 a month right now. That is why I'm trying to find a job." Gosselin hasn't worked for years, supporting his family with the income of the "Jon & Kate Plus 8" show. Since those days are over, he says, "I would like a job in some aspect of TV, probably as a host."

A Malibu rehab facility has filed a claim against the estate of heiress Casey Johnson that would wipe out all her assets. TMZ has obtained documents filed on behalf of Renaissance Malibu, that say the $74,750 bill Johnson owed from a rehab stay in August 2009 has not been paid. Johnson's entire estate was valued at around $75,000 when she died. The legal papers says Johnson stayed at the exclusive facility for 30 days and then received several more days of therapy.

Jeremy London says his success on TV led to prescription pill abuse that endangered his career, health and his relationship with his wife and son -- and even his life. "There were times I didn't care if I died," says London, who arrived in Hollywood with his identical twin, Jason, in 1993 and went on to star in "Party of Five" and then "7th Heaven." Due to his drug use, London says, "I felt like I was losing everything." Once he became a star, "I was treated like royalty," says London. "It was hard for my brain to accept." In 2007, he married actress Melissa Cunningham, and the pair had a son, Lyrik, now 3. But London's prescription drug abuse caused the marriage to fail and even endangered his relationship with his son, with whom he now has twice-weekly visitation. A 2009 stint in rehab helped London get clean.
