Smile to start the weekend: The optimistic Jessica and her daily affirmations!

How cute is this kid? If you, too, need a good mirror-talk in the morning to remind yourself that your whole house is great, you can do anything good, and you like your house, you like your mom, you like your dad, you like your sisters, you like your cousins, you like your hair, you like your haircuts, you like your pajamas, you like your stuff, and well, just about everything, here's a 5-year-old role model for you!

Repeat after Jessica: "I can do anything good .. better than anyone!"

Because the video of 5-year-old Jessica was shot seven years ago, although it was just recently posted, here's an interview with her now ... no, she did not fall off the sink and crack her head open, no, she is not insufferable, and how funny is it to hear that same voice coming from a poised young lady?

Have a great weekend!

Monica beresford redman New reports say that former "Survivor" producer Bruce Beresford-Redman bought two new life insurance policies on his wife, Monica, seen at left, before they departed for the Mexican resort where she was killed. ABC News is reporting that one policy would pay $50,000 in case of accidental death while traveling, while the other would pay $500,000.

• • •

Meanwhile, Beresford-Redman's Mexican attorney says prosecutors want to charge him with first-degree murder in Monica's death. Attorney Jaime Cancino Leon said prosecutors will turn their findings over to a judge by the end of the day Monday, but the judge could then take weeks to review the evidence and decide whether Beresford-Redman should be charged. Cancino blasted Mexcian law enforcement officials, saying, "Bruce has never had the chance to defend himself.  They didn't even give him the chance to participate in the investigation."

• • •

With no charges filed against him yet, Beresford-Redman has moved to regain guardianship of his two children, Camila, 5, and Alec, 4. In a legal declaration, he says, "As Camila's and Alec's biological parent, it is my desire to immediately resume my  full custodial and parental responsibility ... and I am capable and fit to do so." Meanwhile, Beresford-Redman is battling Monica's family's wish to have the children attend their mother's memorial service on Sunday, saying, "It would be healthier for the children to participate in a small, quiet and private memorial for their mother." Beresford-Redman even wants to change this week's visitation day of Monica's sisters from Sunday to Saturday, because he fears the sisters will take the kids to Monica's service against his wishes.

Morning Links: Jesse James' sister supports 'Nightline' abuse claims, but father denies abuse

Jesse James Nightline Jesse James' sister, Julie, has come forward to support her brother's stories about being an abused child. James appeared on 'Nightline' and explained his bad behavior as a reaction to years of physical and verbal abuse from his father, Larry. "I remember the clenched-teeth, strained-neck look on his face. He beat my ass pretty good a bunch of times," James said on the news program.

He also recounted a story where his father allegedly chased him around the house, eventually falling and breaking his arm. "I remember my dad laughed when I hit the ground and called me a dummy," James said.

"It wasn't getting the s--t beat out of me ... It was the in-between time, the fear of that happening again. I was a terrorized kid. It's really tough for me to think about now," he said.

Larry James denied the claims, as has stepmother Janina. Larry told Radar Online that Jesse broke his arm climbing a fence to retrieve a baseball hit into a neighbor's yard. Larry also says that the photo shown on 'Nightline' of Jesse sporting a black eye was from a mini-bike mishap, not any physical abuse.

But sister Julie supports her brother against the denials. "I think they are giving their stories to make money, she says. "Janina was married to my dad when we were teenagers. She doesn't know how angry my dad used to get with us," Julie told E! News. "My [birth] mom had to be my mother and my father. She would back us up." Julie says that Jesse is a different man since his stint in rehab and is trying to move forward with his life.

The Ventura District Attorney has decided not to file charges against Heather Locklear for an auto accident last month in which a vehicle owned by Locklear struck a road sign and the driver left without reporting it. Locklear was taken into custody, and  initially charged with misdemeanor hit-and-run, but the D.A. now says that there isn't enough evidence to support the charge. "Physical evidence established that the vehicle involved in the collision was ... a 2005 black BMW sedan registered to Richard and Heather Sambora ... Insufficient evidence exists to establish who the driver of the vehicle was at the time of the collision. As a result, no criminal charges will be filed."

Morning Links: Was Mindy McCready's hospitalization an overdose or an overreaction?

Mindy mccready Mindy McCready was hospitalized Tuesday, but her spokesman denies widespread reports that the troubled country star took a drug overdose. The rep claims the singer suffered a bad reaction to painkillers prescribed for a broken toe. McCredy took four Darvocets, then had some discussion with her mother, Teri, in whose Florida home McCready is staying. Teri "overreacted" and called 911, said the rep. Audio of the call shows that Teri McCready said, "My daughter has just taken an overdose" and adding, "You've taken too many pills for me to handle this." McCready was taken to Florida's Cape Coral Hospital, where she was said to be in good condition Tuesday afternoon. Later in the day, her brother said McCready had been released and returned home, and, he said in an email, "It was by far over a huge exaggeration." But there may be a reason for Teri's "overreaction -- she and Mindy are currently battling in court over custody of Mindy's 4-year-old son, Zander. According to court papers released last week, to bolster her custody bid, McCready underwent drug and alcohol evaluations as well as psychological assessments. She reportedly passed them al "with flying colors." In 2008, McCready was hospitalized after slicing her wrists and taking pills while intoxicated.

In an interview in the new issue of Esquire, Tom Cruise says he runs the plot of his new movies past his oddly precocious 4-year-old daughter, Suri. "I'll put Suri on a swing and tell her stories when I'm working on a script," Cruise says. "I'll start with the beginning of the movie and take her through the story beat by beat. Of course, I make it age-appropriate. She's four years old. But she asks all the right questions: 'Why does that happen?' 'Those are the bad guys?' 'You're the good guy, right?'" About his wife, Katie Holmes, he says, "You know, I'm married to such a special woman. Every night before we go to sleep, Kate and I look at each other and it's like, 'How'd we do today?'" He also looks back on one of the low points of his career, the couch-jumping episode on Oprah. "Afterward, wild things were being said about me, and once they're in the ether, there's nothing you can do about it. It felt like being the new kid in the schoolyard again and the other kids are whispering and whispering about you and suddenly you hear what they're saying, and you think, What? That didn't happen. James said that seeing the photo of Bullock with her son on the cover of People magazine in April "made me sad, but I realize why things have to be done in a certain way," he says, pointing out that adoption agencies could be critical of him as a father in light of recent events.

Morning Links: Lindsay Lohan parties until departure and drinks on plane; due in court today

After partying until 4 a.m., just a few hours before her plane was scheduled to leave Cannes, Lindsay Lohan hopped a flight home to Los Angeles, drinking wine on the flight Saturday night. She had Sunday to sober up and prepare to appear in court today for a hearing in her 2007 DUI case. Concerned friends tell TMZ that Lohan will not be able to comply with Judge Marsha Revel's expected bail conditions -- that Lohan stop drinking alcohol, wear a SCRAM bracelet that is able to detect alcohol in her system and submit to random drug testing. "She can't make it through a day without it. She's a mess," one friend said. Lohan was in drug and alcohol rehab twice in 2007, when she was 20. If Revel finds Lohan in violation of her probation in the 2007 DUI case, she could be sent to jail for 180 days, UsMagazine reports. One thing that will not be discussed in court is a photo unearthed by TMZ, reportedly taken while Lohan was in Cannes, sitting with a man and a woman next to a table on which two lines of powder are visible. A prosecutor says there's no way to tell what the powder is.

A smile to start the weekend: The heartwarming story of Christian the lion is repeated in a man-gorilla reunion

The reunion of Christian the lion and the two men who raised him in a London apartment became a huge hit when a brief video of the reunion was posted on YouTube. The large male lion's evident delight at seeing his former owners, John Rendall and Anthony "Ace" Bourke, when they found him in Kenya, was inspiring and heartwarming.

Here's another look at Christian:

Now there's a similar human-wild encounter, the reunion of British naturalist Damian Aspinall and a male lowland gorilla named Kwiba that Aspinall raised. This short video starts with a cautionary note -- after being released to the wild, Kwibe has been unpredictable in dealings with humans and has attacked several strangers. But Aspinall is determined to at least see Kwibe. How will their encounter end?

Morning Links: Lindsay Lohan's attorney posts bail, narrowly preventing her arrest

Lindsaylohan in France Lindsay Lohan is no longer facing immediate arrest when she returns to the United States from Cannes after a Los Angeles judge lifted the bench warrant she had issued earlier Thursday  when Lohan skipped court. In issuing the order, Judge Marsha Revel said she has reason to believe that Lohan has a drug or alcohol problem, but the judge lifted the warrant after Lohan's lawyer posted $100,000 bail, paying 10 percent to a bondsman, to ensure her appearance at a new hearing date set for Monday morning.

Lohan, who flew to Cannes earlier this week to drink a lot and fall down on the sidewalks, as well as to talk about her coming biopic of porn star Linda Lovelace, had a lot of excuses for not being in court. She said she couldn't get home because the Icelandic volcano's ash has closed airports and because her passport was stolen. She also says she didn't complete the 13 required alcohol-education classes because her instructor made her feel "uncomfortable." By the way, French police say they have no report that Lohan's passport was stolen.

But Lohan didn't seem worried -- she was photographed partying on a yacht in the French Riviera until the wee hours on the day of her court date, says celebrity photographer Phil Ramey. "We ... are sure that she found her passport, but only if it was hidden under the vodka bottles on board the yacht," he wrote.

Rocker Bret Michaels may not be able to attend Sunday night's live finale of "Celebrity Apprentice" after suffering a serious setback in his recovery from a brain hemorrhage. Doctors say Michaels suffered from numbness on one side of his body, which was caused by a "warning stroke" called a Transient Ischemic Attack, and when he went to the hospital for treatment, doctors also found a hole in his heart. Both conditions are treatable and are not believed to be connected to the brain hemorrhage he suffered last month, but may delay his plans to return to television and touring. "Without a doubt he is very determined to get healthy and make a 100 percent recovery. Medically speaking it is a fantastic attitude both mentally and physically for him to have," neurosurgeon Dr. Joseph Zabramski says on Michaels' Web site. "However, Bret's brain and body are not quite 100 percent yet, especially with the hole found in his heart."

The Jonas Brothers tried to make a quick exit after they entertained thousands of fans at a free outdoor concert at The Grove in Hollywood last Saturday, but they were trapped in an elevator with a few other people "for 45 minutes," says Kevin Jonas. "We were stuck in an elevator with eight people and Big Rob," adds Joe Jonas, referring to the band's security guard, but there was plenty of room on the 21-person elevator. Asked who panicked first, Joe says, "Me and Nick," but Nick disagreed. "I didn't panic," said Nick, who is a diabetic. "I just didn't have my [blood-sugar] checker with me. No one had it on them, and I was afraid that if [my blood-sugar level] went low in an elevator we wouldn't be able to do anything about it." The group was rescued by the fire department, but we may yet see the incident up close. "We had our photographer Rob Hoffman with us, and he had his video camera, so he taped the whole thing," says Nick.
