Daily links: Mel Gibson crashes $100K sports car

Mel Gibson Mel Gibson crashed his 2008 Maserati sports car over the weekend, but the actor is said to be 'fine,' according to his rep. California Highway Patrol says that Gibson was driving in Malibu when his $100,000+ sports car crashed into a hillside pile of rocks. Alcohol was not a factor, according to the police, and Gibson denied texting while driving and drowsy driving, as possible other causes.

Highway Patrol spokesman Leland Tang said, "There were no objective symptoms of intoxication, any level of impairment and we've ruled out speeding as well based on the damage to the car, which was moderate. Mr. Gibson was alert, oriented and cooperative."

TMZ has photos of the damaged vehicle at their website.

Gibson has been embroiled in a bitter custody dispute with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, and has been investigated for alleged domestic abuse.

The members of Insane Clown Posse say that they warned Tila Tequila about the fans at their Gathering of the Juggalos, and that she insisted that she would still go on. ICP member Violent J told TMZ that there were rumors that fans were targeting Tequila. "We told her about the rumor and she didn’t care," Violent J told the site. He also said that the group paid Tequila before the show and told her that if anything happened and she had to leave the stage earlier than her contracted time, she could still keep the money. Violent J says that they have been informed by Tequila's camp that a lawsuit is underway, but he says, "We're not gonna sit back and give her our money."

But Tequila wasn't the only performer at the Gathering that suffered an injury. Rapper Method Man suffered a facial laceration as well, after being hit with a projectile fired from the fans below. Another rapper performing, Redman, said that the projectile that hit Method Man appeared to be a full beer can.

Joaquin Phoenix Remember when Joaquin Phoenix was making all of those crazy appearances looking like Zach Galiafinakis? Well, the trailer for the film is out and features a voiceover of someone comparing Phoenix to drops of water, and then a montage of all the crazy scenes of 2009. The title of the film is called 'I'm Still Here' and is due in theaters next month on Sep 10.

Daily links: Tila Tequila injured by stones thrown by rowdy concert audience, promises lawsuit

Tila tequila attacked Reality star Tila Tequila suffered cuts and bruises when she was hit with stones and bottles thrown by concertgoers Saturday at Gathering of Juggalos, a music festival for fans of the hip-hop group the Insane Clown Posse in Hardin County, Illinois. TMZ published the photo at left of her injured face after the attack.

Tequila told TMZ, "I went onstage and immediately, before I even got on stage, DUDES were throwing HUGE STONE ROCKS in my face, beer bottles that slit my eye open, almost burnt my hair on fire cuz they threw fire crackers on stage ... These people were trying to kill me. ... My bodygaurd and the other security grabbed me and ran as fast as they could to the ... trailor.  Since their security SUCKS, the 2 thousand people ran after us, trying to kill me.  They almost got me so they finally reach the trailor, blood all over myself, cant stop bleeding, then all of a sudden, all 2 thousand people surround the trailor and busts the windows!!!  Even the guys INSIDE with me were shaking!  Their hands were shaking cuz they were so scared!  So 3 guys inside the trailor had to grab a table and push it over the broken windows and grabbed all the chairs they could find so hold the people from outside back.  It was scary as hell!"

Tequila's rep said, "Tila has gotten medical care for the horrific attack that happened to her this weekend at the Juggalos event in Chicago and is in good hands right now and under medical direction. She would like to thank all of her fans for all the love and support that they have given." When the crowd became rowdy, comedian Tom Green joined Tequila on stage in an unsuccessful attempt to diffuse the situation. A concertgoer told CNN that crowd threw more items at Tequila after she removed her top onstage. A YouTube video shows missiles hitting the stage near where Tequila stands with bodyguards.

The sheriff of Hardin County says his deputies, who were already at the concert investigating a stabbing, says the culprits could not be singled out in the crowd but deputies will examine video of the event to see whether anyone can be identified. Sheriff Tom Seiner called the Gathering of the Juggalos a "nightmare" event and said he'd be glad if it never returns to his county, which he believes organizers selected because no permits are needed for concerts.

Daily links: Dina Lohan attacks judge, defends Lindsay on Today show

Dina lohan today 2 Dina Lohan was on the Today show with Matt Lauer this morning, where she defended daughter, Lindsay; blamed the court system; and repeatedly brought up the fact that Judge Marsha Revel has recused herself from the case.

Dina Lohan was argumentative and defiant with Lauer who tried to ask about Lindsay's stay in prison, how she is doing in rehab, and whether her punishment was brought on by her own actions.

Dina Lohan dodged questions about her daughter's time in jail and rehab, instead choosing to repeatedly bring up the fact that Judge Revel was no longer handling the case, and that Lindsay had been mistreated. She called news & tabloid coverage "propaganda," and said that Lindsay was paying a harsher penalty because of an over-aggressive judge.

Lohan asked Lauer if he had heard the news about the judge, then played dumb at times during the interview saying that she really couldn't talk about it.

Judge Revel did, in fact, recuse herself after it was learned that she made a couple of changes to the agreement that the District Attorney had crafted; held hearings without the D.A. present; and made calls of her own to rehab centers, while researching one to send Lohan to for that portion of her sentence.

Dina Lohan did say that Lindsay made some bad choices when she first moved to Los Angeles at age 19, but that when she is released from the rehab program, she would be joining the family back in New York.

Lohan said that other actresses coming up in Hollywood, such as Julia Roberts, never had to worry about the sort of tabloid journalism so prevalent today. She characterized Los Angeles as being a different ball game and that Lindsay had fallen into a bad lifestyle there.

Jennifer Aniston is in a battle of words with Fox News talk show host Bill O'Reilly after she talked about the fact that many women are choosing to enter motherhood without a man in their life. Aniston recently talked to reporters about her new film 'The Switch' in which a woman gets pregnant using a sperm donor. Aniston told reporters, "Women are realizing more and more, knowing that they don't have to settle with a man just to have a child."

O'Reilly took that statement to task on his Fox News talk show saying, "[S]he's throwing a message out to 12-year-olds and 13-year-olds, OK, that, hey, you don't need a guy. You don't need a dad. Dad, ah, you know. That's destructive to our society."

Aniston blasted back, telling People magazine, "Of course, the ideal scenario for parenting is obviously two parents of a mature age. Parenting is one of the hardest jobs on earth. And, of course, many women dream of finding Prince Charming (with fatherly instincts), but for those who've not yet found their Bill O'Reilly, I'm just glad science has provided a few other options."

O'Neal said in a statement, "My plan is to move forward with my life, clean and sober. I am going to do so privately and with as much quiet dignity as I can." O'Neal had previous arrests and stints in rehab related to addictions to alcohol, heroin and methamphetamine.

Steven Tyler After negotiations reportedly fell apart with Jennifer Lopez to join "American Idol" as a judge next season, Steven Tyler is being coy about whether he is joining the show, as has been speculated. TMZ has a video on their site in which Tyler tells street paparazzi when asked about doing the show, "I don't know, is that the rumor you heard? I don't know, they haven't called me yet. They got to lay out the bread for me, baby."

And while that all percolates,  People magazines speculates that producers have returned their attention to country music star Shania Twain about filling the slot to which Lopez had been previously linked.

Twain was a guest judge during auditions held in Chicago last season after the departure of Paula Abdul, but before Ellen DeGeneres joined the panel for the live shows. She also was a mentor in April for a country music themed week of songs from her career.

Daily links: Jennifer Lopez's diva demands reportedly derail 'American Idol' judging job

Jennifer lopez Jennifer Lopez was said to be a sure thing to take a seat on the new, revamped "American Idol" judges' panel, but not any more. A source told People that Lopez had been close to a deal for a permanent judges' seat when the deal fell apart. "Her demands got out of hand," the source reported. "Fox had just had enough." Both founding judge Simon Cowell and one-year judge Ellen DeGeneres have quit, and fourth wheel Kara DioGuardi had been reportedly let go. Lopez and Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler were reportedly set to take the seats next to Randy Jackson on a three-judge panel, but now it looks as though some of the earlier picks might be considered again. Fox had no comment. A rep for Lopez did not immediately return calls for comment. Last week, Randy Jackson told EOnline, "The only thing that's for sure is Ryan [Seacrest]. Nothing has been decided. .... If Jennifer Lopez is a judge I would be very happy. I love her."

Meanwhile, Joe DioGuardi, a downstate New York Republican politician, says his daughter Kara been kept int he dark about her future on the show. "Would you believe that she did not hear and still has not heard anything?" he says. "She read it the way you did and I did. In fact, her disappointment is that's the way she's being treated, and she feels that's not proper."

"The family tried to put her in the shower to try and keep her awake," he said. The911  dispatcher asked them to remove her from the shower and sent an ambulance to her house. Daily links: Fantasia Barrino hospitalized after drug overdose police say was suicide attempt

Fantasia-barrino-haircut After denying she was responsible for breaking up the marriage of a North Carolina couple, Fantasia Barrino took an overdose of aspirin and sleep medication and was hospitalized Monday in Charlotte, N.C., her manager Brian Dickens confirmed Tuesday. He said, "Her injuries are not life-threatening. She was dehydrated and exhausted at the time. Fantasia is stable now. She will be released from the hospital soon." The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department, which classified the incident as a suicide attempt, says Barrino was found with "possible internal injuries." In a divorce court filing, a woman named Paula Cook said Fantasia had a long affair with her husband, Antwaun, and made a sex tape with him. Monday, Barrino denied she was responsible for breaking up the marriage, but on Tuesday, Dickens said the singer and Antwaun "dated off and on for 11 months." Dickens said Barrino believed the Cooks separated in the summer of 2009 and believed Antwaun Cook when "he told her he was not happy in his marriage" and that he and his wife were separated. The pair married in 2005 and were still together until June. Barrino read Paula Cook's complaint Monday and although she called some of the allegations "totally false," Dickens said she is "heartbroken and is sorry for any pain she may have caused. Yesterday she was totally overwhelmed with the lawsuit and the media attention."

Bieber and kardashian Teen pop star Justin Bieber, 16, and curvy reality star Kim Kardashian, 29, have paired up again. The two raised eyebrows when they were photographed together in May at the White House Correspondents' Dinner. Now she has posted on her blog that the pair met in the Bahamas to shoot a photo spread for Elle magazine. "Remember those paparazzi pics of me and Justin Beiber in the Bahamas!? Well I can now reveal that we were shooting for Elle Magazine!" Kardashian, 29, wrote. "I just received the pics from the shoot and I absolutely LOVE how they turned out!" she adds. "The theme of the shoot was The Graduate for obvious reasons, LOL" She added, "Justin and I had such a fun time together at the shoot." One photo taken for Elle is seen at left. Of course, in "The Graduate," Ben Braddock, played by Dustin Hoffman opposite Anne Bancroft's sultry Mrs. Robinson, was a college graduate, not a high school graduate.

TMZ is reporting that sparks of a different kind flew when Kardashian met up with her ex-boyfriend, Reggie Bush, at last month's wedding reception of his New Orleans Saints teammate Bobby McCray and her friend Khadijaq Haqq. Witnesses say Bush approached Kardashian and began talking about working things out and getting back together. The conversation grew heated and Bush became "aggressive due to drunkenness," the witness said, and eventually bodyguards stepped in to "pull Reggie away from Kim."

"For him, it's his reputation, because we are linked together … I understand that. It's hard for any dad to see their daughter on tape like that. I understand, but at the same time I want him to understand that this is my dream." Fishburn is sure that her father will get over his anger. "I definitely think we'll get through this. I don't want to just do porn and even if I did just want to do porn, he's not going to stop loving me or stop talking to me just because this is what my job is. He's upset right now. After all the media attention subsides about the release of it, he'll want to talk and it'll be back to normal."

Daily Links: Levi Johnston plans run for mayor as part of reality TV show

Levi Johnston Levi Johnston, the on-again-off-again boyfriend/fiancée of Sarah Palin's daughter Bristol, is not giving up on chasing fame. Reports surfaced yesterday that Johnston is planning to run for Mayor of Wasilla, Alaska, a position that Palin once held, as part of a reality television show he is pushing.

Hollywood Reporter confirms that Johnston is pitching a show called 'Loving Levi: The Road to the Mayor's Office,' which will focus on his campaign; his struggles to be a good father to son Tripp; and his quest for fame in Hollywood. The idea to run for mayor was not Johnston's original plan, according to the report, but was suggested by producers as a possible gimmick to attract viewership to the program.

Johnston talked to Variety about his plan to run for mayor, and he told the magazine, "(T)he more I think about it and look into it, I think there's a possibility we can make it happen. It's something that I want to do."

Of course, one small detail is that the mayor's office is not up for election until 2012, so producers are considering a possible run for the city council to start. And while the prospects of a young twenty-something -- famous for fathering a child with Palin's daughter and having posed for Playgirl magazine -- seems unlikely, Variety points out that the previous mayor won the office with a mere 466 votes.

The production company doesn't have a buyer for the show yet, but they are shopping it with the description: "[Johnston] will give us a real inside look into who he is as a father, a skilled hunter, an avid dirt biker and his journey down the road of small-town politics ... right after he gets his high school diploma."

Hollywood Reporter talked to several reality TV producers about the prospect of Johnston's show succeeding, and they all agree that the show would work only if he has a personality. Other tabloid fodder, such as "Octomom" Nadia Suleman failed to get shows launched largely because she was uninteresting. But as one producer said, "I have no clue what his personality is like. All I know is the name. The name recognition is there, so if they can put something together that backs it up and makes some compelling television, they can make a deal."

There's still no official announcement on the upcoming season of "American Idol" as far as judges go. TMZ stands by their story that Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler have been added to the judge's table, but they say that no official contracts have been extended as of yet. The show is about a month away from the stage of competition where they will need to begin auditioning before the judges, so there is always a chance that something could change.

TMZ says that their sources say that there have been no meetings, or mock auditions with the judges to see whether there is any chemistry between them. With the original judges, producers held several dinner parties with the judges to gauge chemistry, even sending some of the men out to strip clubs to bond.

Fantasia Barrino Speaking of "American Idol," Season 3 winner Fantasia Barrino is in the tabloids because a woman in North Carolina says that her marriage was torn apart because of Fantasia. The accusing wife, Paula Cook, says that Fantasia made several sex tapes with her husband Antwaun.

Cook says in her divorce filings that her husband participated in a "covert adulterous affair" with Fantasia that started in 2009, and that Fantasia taunted her in a telephone conversation. "He don’t want you. Maybe the next time that you get a husband you'll know how to keep him. That's why he is here with me," Fantasia is alleged to have told Cook.

Fantasia denies that she is the cause of the Cooks' break-up. "Fantasia is certain that she is not responsible for the deterioration of the Cooks' marriage," manager Brian Dickens told E! News. "Fantasia will weather this Storm with the dignity and grace that she has exemplified throughout a life in which she has repeatedly overcome obstacles and challenges."

The sheriff department's spokesman said that the department will not make any recommendations to the D.A. about whether Gibson should be charged with any crime, but that they have indeed investigated three possible charges to consider: domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon and child endangerment.

Daily links: Jersey Shore's Snooki says she's drinking less after arrest and dad's scolding

Snooki mug shot During an MTV press event, Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi tried to brush off her arrest for disorderly conduct after hours of drinking on the beach and boardwalk, but later she admitted that she is nervous about going to court and that her dad's angry reaction made her take another look at her behavior. First she told reporters, "I didn't hurt anybody – stuff like that happens in Jersey. I was in the drunk tank for a little bit, I had too many tequilas. What are you gonna do?" But later she said her father angrily scolded her. "My dad was very, very pissed," she said. "He's like, 'I didn't raise you like this.' I just felt really bad, so I'm definitely going to stop drinking during the daytime. And now when I go out, I only have a couple drinks. ... I learned that I need to calm down with drinking." Polizzi said she had been drinking since about noon on the day of her arrest, when she was photographed stumbling and falling as she tried to walk on the beach in Seaside Heights. When police approached her, witnesses saw her argue and swear, although Polizzi says she remembers very little of what happened, including her mug shot, above. "But when I did remember and I woke up in the drunk tank, I was like, 'All right, I must have drank way too many cocktails,'" she said. Polizzi says she is worried about her court appearance Aug. 18. "I'm scared to go because I feel like a criminal," she said. "I'm not a criminal. It's just a drunken mistake." Now, she says, she does not drink during the day and limits herself to just a few drinks in the evening. "I like to have a good time but maybe I'm overdoing it a little too much. So right now I'm just watching myself and I can have a good time not drinking." She calls the arrest "a good wakeup call for me. It definitely embarrassed my family and that's just not good."

Montana said, "She loves me and is concerned and worried about me. She wants me to be OK and wants whatever is best for me." Last week, after the porn film was announced, it was learned that friends of Laurence Fishburne attempted to buy all the copies of the tape for $1 million to prevent it from being released. Attorney Yale Galanter called Steve Hirsch, head of the adult entertainment company that is releasing the film, with the million-dollar offer, but the DVDs had already shipped out. Hirsch said, "It's true that we had several conversations with Mr. Galanter. We would have stopped shipment but it was too late. We continue to have the utmost respect for all involved."

Daily links: Gary Coleman's ex-wife battles estate's move to sell his 'distressed' house

Gary coleman shannon price inside edition The Utah house in which Gary Coleman suffered his fatal fall May 28 is up for sale for $320,000, but it needs a lot of work. Court-appointed administrator Robert Jeffs estimates at least $7,500 in repairs will be needed to make the "poor/distressed" property livable. Plus, it's still full of Coleman's "disorganized" belongings -- the ones ex-wife Shannon Price didn't make off with, that is. Price was evicted from the home in June after it was decided that she was not mentioned in his legally recognized will, and she is said to be furious that Jeffs filed a motion this week seeking permission to sell their former home. Price's lawyer has told E! News that she and Coleman were common-law spouses, even though they had legally divorced, and she plans to fight to oppose any sale of what her rep, Sheilia Erickson, calls "the home they shared." Erickson also says that 24 hours before Gary died, he told her he "wanted [Shannon] to be taken care of" and that "everything goes to her." Erickson says, "Gary would want Shannon in that house. It was their house together." Coleman's estranged parents, Willie and Sue Coleman, have filed a petition asking a judge to dismiss Price's attempt to get common-law marriage status. A sale of the home may not garner much money -- Coleman owed more than $325,000 on the property, which is valued at $324,000.

Also embroiled in a dispute over the assets of a deceased star is Anne Carradine, who is rejecting an attempt by his third ex-wife to claim part of his estate. Oddly, the ex-wife, Gail Jensen, is also dead, but filed a legal claim on Carradine's estate before she passed away in April, saying he owed her money. Anne Carradine asked to be appointed executor of David's estate but claims that his assets were so low that it should not be necessary. She claims that at the time of his death, David had $40,000 in personal property and no real estate. Anne Carradine's lawyer says she "filed that petition to protect [Carradine's estate] against the filing" of Gail Jensen's attorney. Last June, Jensen said Carradine, who died accidentally while acting out a sexual bondage scenario, "spent days planning" erotic bondage schemes. She told TMZ, "David was pretty strange. He would like to get tied up. He would tie himself up and I would walk in and see him and say 'Oh my God, David, you got to be kidding me!' -- and I would (turn around and) walk out. I would leave him to his own devices."

Daily Links: Supermodel Naomi Campbell testifies at war crimes trial

Naomi Campbell Supermodel Naomi Campbell testified at the war crimes trial of former Liberian dictator Charles Taylor, who is accused of contributing to the war in neighboring Sierra Leone by sending guns to rebel fighters for uncut 'blood diamonds.' Taylor faces 11 war crimes from a United Nations war-crimes tribunal, including murder, rape, sexual enslavement and recruiting child soldiers. Taylor is accused of "allegedly arming, training and commanding the rebels to kill and maim thousands of civilians."

Where Campbell comes into the war-crimes trial is by virtue of a trip she took to South Africa in 1997 for a dinner party given by Nelson Mandela. At the dinner, Campbell was seated next to Taylor, who -- according to the charges --  later that evening sent men to Campbell's room to deliver some uncut diamonds as a gift of admiration from the Liberian leader.

The next morning Campbell told actress Mia Farrow about the gift, and Farrow told her what the stones were, and how they were likely acquired, encouraging Campbell not to keep them. Campbell has previously said that she told a colleague to "do something good with them" such as donate to Mandela's foundation to be sold as a fund-raiser. But Campbell testified yesterday that the colleague she gave them to still, in fact, had them.

Campbell had been fighting appearing at the war-crimes tribunal for fear of retaliation against her and her family. But a subpoena and the threat of seven years in prison for contempt changed her mind. Campbell testified, "I had never heard of Charles Taylor before. I had never heard of the country Liberia before. I had never the term 'blood diamonds' before … This is someone who, I read on the Internet, has killed thousands of people. I don't want my family endangered in any way."

Of receiving the stones, Campbell testified, "They said, 'A gift for you,' and then gave me a pouch … I took it, said, 'Thank you,' and closed the door. There was no explanation, no note. When they gave me the pouch I just put it close to my bed and went back to bed."

Sean Penn and Robin Wright are now officially divorced. The on-again, off-again divorce proceedings were made official last week by a California judge in Marin County. The Wright first filed for divorce in December 2007, but by April 2008 had withdrawn the papers. Then in April 2009 it was Penn who filed papers seeking to end their marriage, but a month later they reconciled. Wright again filed for divorce in August 2009, citing irreconcilable differences, and this time it stuck. After 14 years and two children, the marriage is now legally and officially over.

While one Hollywood marriage fails, celebrities are rejoicing over the U.S. District Court judge who over-ruled California's Proposition 8, which outlawed gay marriage. Judge Vaughn R. Walker declared yesterday that the proposition which passed with 52% of voters in California was 'unconstitutional.' Gay Hollywood has begun to respond. Ellen DeGeneres tweeted "This just in: Equality won!" Her wife Portia de Rossi told E! News "...This is an incredibly exciting and historical day and a big step towards equal rights for all."

George Takei, of 'Star Trek' fame, told E! News, "We're overjoyed. We're very happy." Takei added, "I'm sure this is going to be challenged all the way up to the Supreme Court, but my gut feeling is that it's a clear Constitutional issue that's in our favor."

Other celebs tweeting included Ricky Martin, Paris Hilton, Kal Penn, Christina Applegate, among others. Former American Idol runner-up Adam Lambert said it was time to "throw glitter on this barn!"

Lance Armstrong The mud appears to be sticking to seven-time Tour de France winner, Lance Armstrong. The New York Times reports that federal investigators looking into allegations first brought up by cyclist Floyd Landis now have additional cyclists who support the allegations. Landis shocked the sporting world in May when he accused Armstrong of using performance-enhancing drugs and blood transfusions to gain an edge in training and races. Armstrong has denied those allegations, but new witnesses support those claims that Armstrong participated in and encouraged others on the US Postal Service-sponsored cycling team to use those illegal training practices. Armstrong's lawyer Bryan Daly told The Times, "If Lance Armstrong came in second in those Tour de France races, there’s no way that Lance Armstrong would be involved in these cases. I think that the concern is that they are caught up in the pursuit of a celebrity to catch him in a lie."

Montana fishburn and her father Montana Fishburne, the 19-year-old daughter of "Matrix" star Laurence Fishburne, says in a statement that while she hears her father is angry that she has made a porn film, she thinks he'll get over it. "I heard he's mad at me, but I haven't spoken to him yet," Montana says in a statement from Vivid Entertainment, which has just bumped up the release of the tape from Aug. 18 to Aug 10. "I feel pretty confident that I can work things out with him," says Montana. "I think he wants to support me in everything I do and though he sees this now as a negative, I believe in time he will view it as a positive." Last Friday, Vivid shared the news that the Oscar-nominated star's daughter will appear in "Montana Fishburne." In the explicit hourlong DVD, she has sexual escapades in a hotel room, a car and a shopping mall. Last week, she said, "I view making this movie as an important first step in my career. I've watched how successful Kim Kardashian became and I think a lot of it was due to the release of her sex tape by Vivid. I'm hoping the same magic will work for me. I'm impatient about getting well-known and having more opportunities and this seemed like a great way to get started on it."

"He's just obsessed with the limelight and I got played." Johnston taped a music video with singer/songwriter Brittani Senser for her R&B song “After Love," in which he plays a man driven away by his girlfriend’s disapproving mother Johnston's reps did not return calls seeking comment. Palin also says she is vacating the three-story Anchorage townhouse she bought six months ago because it attracted paparazzi and gawkers. "I didn't feel safe," she says.
