Live from the Class A & D baseball regionals: GI, North Collins ousted

BATAVIA -- It's Far West Regional baseball day in Class A and Class D.

In the first game between North Collins and Arkport, Arkport leads, 3-2 in the middle of the second inning.

Starting North Collins pitcher Ethan Cerne was injured on the second play of the game. Cerne, the lead off batter for North Collins, singled to start the game. After Vinnie Sherman struck out, Cerne dove back to the first-base bag on the pick-off move. He injured his shoulder and was taken off the field in an ambulance.

Brandon Judson took over pitching duties for the Eagles.

Check back for the final score and later updates on the Class A regional between Grand Island and Aquinas.

Class D Final: With 12 hits Arkport advances to the state tournament with a 7-2 win over North Collins. Greg Kruppa went 3-for-3 driving in both runs for the Eagles who end their season at 18-6.

North Collins coach Paul Kellner said that he received reports that Cerne dislocated his right shoulder.

Class A: The game between Grand Island and Aquinas will be underway shortly as they announce the lineups for both teams. The 7 p.m. start time was pushed back after the injury delay in the North Collins game.

Heading to the bottom of the sixth inning the Vikings are on the verge of being shutout as Aquinas has a 12-0 lead.

The final score is 12-0 as Grand Island generated just four total hits.
