Friday Night Live: Week Five

When it comes to the regular season, this is the night football fans have been waiting for.

As soon as the schedule came out in the spring, we knew Orchard Park at Lancaster and Sweet Home at Iroquois would be big ones. They certainly are, as both defending state champions face major tests on the road.

A full slate of a season-high 28 games tonight also includes Depew at Cheektowaga, East Aurora at Lackawanna and Dunkirk at Alden in Class B, Cleveland Hill at Wilson in Class C, Portville at Randolph in Class D, major matchups that will affect playoff and poll positions.

There's also a visit from Ohio's Cardinal Mooney at St. Francis, and a good test for Harvard Cup unbeaten and co-No. 10 large school Burgard.

The Bulldogs face Hutch-Tech in the weekend's first kickoff -- 5 p.m. at All High Stadium.

Here's what you think the best game of the weekend is.

Check out today's weekend preview by Miguel Rodriguez.

I'm headed to what we think is the biggest game -- OP at Lancaster at 7:30 p.m. -- and I'll be posting updates here at Prep Talk.

The OP at Lancaster game can be heard on WGR (550 AM).

Stay here through the night as we'll have updates and scores as soon as we get them.

Also, tune your twitter to "bufnewspreptalk" to get instant updates of the scores as soon as they are reported to us. We also have a fan page at Facebook -- just search "The Buffalo News' Prep Talk blog" -- and you'll get updates with links to our high school sports stories.

7:28 p.m. I'm doing a separate LIVE BLOG of Orchard Park at Lancaster.

I tried to get a quick video of Burgard and Hutch-Tech, but the fence was locked where I usually get in and I had no time to spare.

Friday night's scores are available by clicking here. The first Harvard Cup score of the night is in: Hutch-Tech 12, Lafayette 6. Mark Horne's 2-yard touchdown run in the second quarter provided the winning points. Tech (1-2) won its first game, while the Violets fell to 3-1 in league play.
