Saturday football times & sites update
This just in to the home office:
Saturday's Section VI football schedule -- all two games of it -- has been tweaked.
The Class C semifinal of Cassadaga Valley at Eden will be played on Hamburg's new turf field at 1 p.m. The game (originally scheduled for 1:30 p.m.) was moved because Eden's field is soaked.
The Class A semifinal of Iroquois at Sweet Home will be played at the traditional kickoff time of 2 p.m. (Section VI originally had the game at 1:30).
---Keith McShea

EA was forced to take their cleats off at the alden game, and look what happened. But cleats don't make a difference right, don't allow you to cut or move in the mud. I don't know if you guys have ever played football before but cleats make a difference in mud. Obviously plays, players, and coaches make the biggest difference but get real.

Don't forget Timon vs St Joes 2:00 at SJ. Joe's tries to win 4th straight, only allowed 7 points in last three games.

freethrow- come up and say hi...I'm gonna try to get up to the SH side press box pregame to see the WGR crew. Yeah, I'll probably be the only one with Chiefs insignia on that side of the field! Good luck...don't tilt the field too much. Man, don't get me thinking about that Murie run. That game still came down to SH making all those 4th down conversions in the 4th. One stop probably would have sealed the game the other way.

Fan,
thank you very much for discovery the key to success in High School football. Not a strong line and fast backs, but the 1" cleat, OMG only if i would have discovered this i would be hanging up banners left and right. Come on, yeah they help in muddy conditions but the best team wins 99% of the time reguardless of cleat size. I dont know about this year, but i know this is a practice that has happened in the past so don't act like EA is the first team to do this.

hey milt i dont see sweet home losing this one unless murie was on the field off to the ralph Blue and gold. I sometimes look at that last play of the 07 game and say he could of changed history.

Milt’s look at the playoff games:
AA
Lockport at Lancaster- Lancaster is getting more bodies back from the MASH unit, which will make their depth that much better. Obvious key to the game is Redskins playing team defense against Lockport’s David Fluellen. His running gave a big scare to OP in week 1. Lancaster should force a few 3 and outs. I don’t think Lockport’s defense will have the same success. RBs Maryniewski and Davis give a speed/power combo, Juda can run or pass, and the likely return of Mrozek could put pressure on the Lion’s defensive backfield. Lancaster off to the Ralph.
Orchard Park at North Tonawanda- The reign as Quakers topping the hill will end. NT has a more dynamic offense than anything OP has seen this year, including Lancaster. There are too many options for Coach Jantzi. Davis, Tuzzo, Montesanti, Kijowski, etc will all have touches. OP may have one of the most disciplined defenses in WNY, but NT has players that will test there ability to make plays every time. The biggest issue I see is that OP’s offense doesn’t have the quick strike scoring ability as in year’s past. NT off to the Ralph.
A
Iroquois at Sweet Home- Expect some scoring. Last 5 times these two have met, each has had at least 3 TDs. Sweet Home is favored for good reason, they’ve got weapons all over the field. Neasman, Nettles, Zinermon must be accounted for on every play due to their speed. Coleman and McMahon give them some power running. Don’t let Sweet Home’s Spread offense fool you, they are a running team by a big margin. The positive for Iroquois is that they moved the ball on the Panthers just as easily in week 5. Kloc and Sluberski ran chunks of yardage and kept SH off the field. Chiefs have had better luck passing recently with WRs Evans, Parker, and TE Wagner, so that element could factor. The obvious key to the game is if Iroquois’ defense can play more aggressive at the point of attack and get better support on the counters that SH has had success. They can’t let SH to easily set up their counters and sweeps. Will it be enough? An untimely turnover dashes one team’s dream. In a game that some SH Seniors have not seen defeat while in high school, they visualize. Red/White to the Ralph. (did ya really think I’d pick it the other way?? LOL forgot to take off the red colored visor)
Grand Island at Hamburg- While this game will probably be closer than their earlier meeting, I see the same result. One of things that GI likes to do is throw, one of the things that Hamburg loves to do is rush a passer. GI will try to get the ball to Gallagher and Kellner, but pressure on Klock will force some mistakes. If I was GI, I’d try to establish LaLonde running alot. Hamburg’s offense isn’t overly efficient, but they make plays, as Zarcone is elusive. A defensive, field position battle. Hamburg fans go wild as they celebrate their 1st trip to the Ralph.
B
Albion at Cheektowaga- Albion will not quit, but Warriors have too many options with Davis, Turner, and McLean. Cheektowaga wins this game by playing swarming defense. From Galleria to the Ralph.
Alden at East Aurora- I’ve been going back and forth on this one. Alden I think has the more playmakers, with Huston, Peel, Barzyckowski, Stodt and have options. EA will try to throw the ball and might have an advantage on soggy field. Alden should focus on eliminating the Gampietro to Sweet combo. In a game I wouldn’t be surprised goes either way, Bulldogs off to the Ralph.
C
Cleveland Hill at Southwestern- I love this matchup, and also will say winner of this game wins Class C. This will be Southwestern’s toughest matchup until at least the State Semis. Southwestern will do OK on defense looking for CH to run. The key to the game is how will SW react to Cleve Hill’s defense? They have tons of size up front to help neutralize the “Carlson factor” and speed that swarms to the ball. I don’t see SW getting many breakaway long TDs. Its going to be a grind it out slugfest. Bursch, Mistretta, and Sopak will have opportunities to maske plays. Special teams/discipline might swing game in SW favor. SW off to Ralph, but anyone who calls for a blowout should prepare themselves, CH is good.
Cassadaga Valley at Eden (at Hamburg)- Classic match of offense vs defense. CV scores around 30 points a game, while Eden has given up just 12 points (2 TDs) all year. Eden will control the line of scrimmage with troy Bigelow and force CV out of their comfort zone, which is handing the ball to Monacelli. Eden takes the field position battle and pounds a few TDs in with Bermingham. Eden to the Ralph.
D
Silver Creek at Maple Grove- This will be a big test for MG. Silver Creek has a line and a better than average running attack with Williams, DeLong, and Sterlace that will keep Maple Grove offense off the field. SC has been playing great defense this year as well, only allowing more than 10 points once (vs Randolph). Maple Grove has gotten its offense working after a slow start. Secky hasn’t been as efficient as last year, but still provides a scary one to game plan against. RB Rosenburg has been coming on, while Tordoff and Saxton have contributed. MG back to Ralph, but could be a close one.
Portville at Randolph- Portville benefitted from playing in the weakest of the three D divisions. Their two losses were to Silver Creek and Randolph. In week 5, Randolph dominated Portville 41-0. Randolph has options in Hettenbaugh , Lockwood, and Terry. The biggest factor might be that Randolph has played great defensively all year. Randolph off to the Ralph for a rematch with MG.

East Aurora was just reported for the cleats they were using in the maryvale game and now the refs are going to do random cleat checks for every game and if some one has illegal ones on the coach gets 15y penalty and kid can't play until they are switched. It was just sent out to the coaches. So lets not say EA knows how to handle themselves in the mud, anybody can with 1" cleats.

Mike Ferrentino you still have yet to see Alden play. Should have got off the Licata show a week earlier and came to Depew for one of the most exciting games of the year. Im sure you would have recognized the AJF names, Peel, Stoldt, Barczykowski. Did you have a chance to see the game on time warner? I dont blame you for not missing the OP @ NT game. But im going NT by 21. Hopefully we get to the stadium so you can see the boys play. It is going to be a great game friday in EA. Good luck to both teams.

Fran where on here is there any Alden talk. These are respected football people on here and have concerns about a semifinal game played in a cow pasture. Milt Alden im sure would love to move the game to Depew. Not going to happen. Section 6 should look into the Rochester format as far as semifinal games at nuetral sites. Rochester plays there games at Paetec Park. Takes away from the whole spike concern and whether or not a soccer game will be played on it.

The whining coming out of Alden all but guarantees that EA will not move the game.
Also, here is a question for all you Alden Einsteins. Does your school still have an English department? If so, maybe you all should start attending class.

EA-Alden could probably go to place closer for both schools like Depew.

The Milt clan must all go on the road this weekend. My father went to OP, my mom went to Cleveland Hill, my brother lives in Alden, and Chiefs go to Sweet Home. Will be a battle for any of them to play at the Ralph.

I have a great idea..Move the EA Alden Game to saturday at 5:30 at Hamburg. the entire High school Football Community can attend the game (nothing else happening at that time). Great field, and I can selfishly watch the two teams play. I need to see these two play and I ain't missin OP v. NT..make the change EA..

Hey easy there classless, just because East Aurora can handle themselves on a muddy field and alden cant is not a reason to change fields. And the soccer team is not playing on the football field at 3:30 that day. They are playing on what is called a soccer field. Thank You.

Home-field advantage should mean home-field advantage as long as it isn't unsafe. Mud is not unsafe.

Great idea..my hat is off to Eden . I for one am very excited to see these two teams play. Monacelli, Bermingham and the many great players..Lets get it on..Cya Sat. at 1:00..

Eden demonstrating class? Are you kidding me? Their field was no less wet this past Saturday and they played on it - most horrible playing field conditions. Another "class" move by Eden: had a player ejected from the game (and can't play the next game either) because of the most unsportsmanlike conduct ever witnessed at a high school football game.

AMAZIMG EDEN HAD ENOUGH CLASS TO MOVE THERE GAME TO HAMBURG BECAUSE THE FIELD WAS UNPLAYABLE. MAYBE EAST AURORA COULD USE SOME OF THAT CLASS AND MOVE FRIDAYS FOOTBALL GAME. I HAVE GOOD INFORMATION FROM THE MARYVALE COACHES THAT THEY ARE USING 1 INCH SPIKES. NOT ONLY IS THE FIELD A JOKE THEY HAVE SCHEDULED A SOCCER GAME ON FRI. AT 3:30 BEFORE THE GAME WITH ALDEN. LOTSA CLASS EAST AURORA!!!!!
