Scrimmages in August have nothing to do with what is happening now. The word this year was that SW scored on about 3 of the first 10 plays-after that it was even. But again its a scrimmage. I think its pretty clear that both teams have gotten a lot of value out of playing each other in an "event that does not count before the season". Randolph knows that SW has size, great talent, and a diverse offense. SW knows they are going to be hit for the entire practice. That's all that matters to the coaches and they are probably both cracking up at all this discussion. By the way I know that Randolph is extremely gateful for the opportuntiy that SW gives them to practice on the turf. So thanks SW!! Let's focus on bringing 2 titles back to the Stier and hope they keep playing each other in a before season event that does not count.

Chaut Co:
I posted this on another blog, but the rise of Section 6 football is no mirage. The off-season weight lifting and the continuous camps, ie Passing, Blocking, and skilled College Camps really has Section 6 looking superior to any other section. There has yet to be a game where a Section 6 team (besides Cheek) has come out and looked less than dominate. Even the Randolph v Dundee game was not as close as the score depicted. I also think having UB emerge on the National scene as a big time D-1 school helps the area a ton. If you look at all the States (CA, TX, FL, OH, OK) that regularly pump out D-1 prospects, you notice they all have a multitude of large D-1 colleges, and year round camps and training programs. Look at the talent we have produced in the past couple of years, Starks, Roosevelt, Williams, Gronkowski(?), Caulrick(?) all with NFL potential.

I said MG defense dominated the scrimmage not so much there offense. Cassadaga and MG both beat up on Clymer. I don't see why were talking about scrimmages now. If i had to pick who is better just from watching the two teams I'd say SW. But this talk is irrelevant to us at the moment. I do think the score in the Ran-Groton game was a little blown up. Talking to some non-randolph people it sounds like Groton pretty much quit. I think instead of arguing with each other we should focus on how section 6 has gone from only winning one FWR game in 07 (getting blown out in all the other ones) to the best section in the state back to back.

Well, at least the Randolph vs. Southwestern fantasy matchup has put and end to the '08 Maple Grove vs. Southwestern fantasy matchup. A word of advice to both teams...fuggedaboudit and cheer one another on for a state champ crown. I'm a Maple Grove fan and EVEN I hope you both win it! The fact that two teams from our area can walk away champions in your respective class is more important than who will win the #1 spot in WNY small schools....which by the way, will go to Southwestern. But don't worry Cards....last year a D school named Maple Grove took top honors.... :)

this banter between Southwestern and Randolph people are doing the kids at each respective school a great dis-service. These kids are playing their hearts out and all you can do is throw out scrimmage stats and stats from 2 years ago. Let that stuff go and cheer on each of the Section 6 teams this coming weekend. Who would have thought that 4 Section 6 teams would be playing for state championships again this year?

It never ceases to amaze me how many people come on this blog and not only refer to scrimmages, but actually cite stats. 7 tds to 5tds? Are scrimmages like major events in the southern tier? From the sounds of things, admission is charged, concession stands are in full operation, crowd sizes reach the thousands, and statisticians are busier than Milt Latimer trying to write a Sweet Home vs. Iroquois poem!

Are you kidding me Burch. 2005 and 2006 Randolph scored 17 TDs to Southwesterns 3 tds. I know I was there. We shoved Southwestern all over the field. I watched 2007 and it was about as even as even could be. In 2008 it was fairly even I 'd give a slight edge to SW 7 tds to 5 I believe. this year I thought SW had an early edge but we were missing 3 starters. In a real game at full strength Randolph beats Southwestern by 2 tds. D is so much stronger than C. Just look at what we did to Groton and prerrenial class B Cenango Forks who you only beat by 3 tds, beat Groton by 3 tds. How much more proof do you need that D is better than C. oh if you want to talk scrimmages. Cassadagas own blogger "Chaut_co" said that MG dominated Cassadaga in scrimmage and CV had a slight edge over Clymer. D is for real. Bigger isn't always better!

Randolph Fans:
You guys have a good team and I hope you guys win a state Championship, but lets be honest here. SWCS and Randolph scrimmaged each other at the beginning of the season and say what you want about how much better they are now then at the beginning of the season, but the fact remains the same. SWCS dominated the scrimmage scoring on 4 of its first 6 plays. And say what you want about scrimmages and how there not real games, which there not but you can gauge talent and Randolph just does not have it. I think you guys have one guy over 200 pounds on your line, we have four! The pure size, strength and athleticism of our players are on a whole different level. Im a SWCS alum and you may say im a homer but I scrimmaged Randolph my 4 years in HS and every year they came out aggressive, and could hit but they were no were close to us athletically. So hopefully next year Jay puts a D game on the schedule and we put this to rest.

Congratulations to all four WNY football teams. It is great a honor to have made it this far. One more step to climb to get to the top. It will not be easy but it can be done.Play for your family your friends your community your school but most of all play for your team. What you have done cannot ever be taken from you because you have done it all together as a team. Play with your heart and play with pride. Bring it all home. Good Luck

Are you people serious? I think we all agree that Randolph is a running team. And their passing game is way below average. You honestly think that Randolph's line would be able to move SW's line? Southwestern's line is considered to be one of the top in WNY. Randolph doesnt have the speed or athletes to cover any of SW's recievers. Randolph is a far less suprior team. The only reason Dundee looked so good is bc Section 5 is so weak in class D. Besides Hornell and Aquinas, Section V is weak in all classes. I think anyone that is not from the Randolph area would see that SW would beat them.

hey cardinal,
pass that stuff over here! keep thinking of your pipe dreams! listen southwestern is probably the best team all the way up to A, yeah randolph is good, and deserves where they are but come on, I think this shows how good this section is in D but come on get real
Posted by: maple grove news | November 21, 2009 at 01:56 PM
Hey lets not get carried away. I think the Randolph/SW would be competitive with SW probably coming out on top. How bout we all focus on what a great run section 6 is having and root for all 4 teams to win against who they are playing! Go NT,SH,SW and Randolph!!
Posted by: stierfan | November 21, 2009 at 12:11 PM
Football fans have to start admitting that Randolph and the rest of the D class is better than C. silver Creek was a class c finalist last season and returned 8starters on each side of the balland couldn't get to the D sectional final. They were 3 rd or 4 th. best D team a year after being the 2nd. best C team. The Randolph has improved tremendously over the course of the season. I think Southwestern has shown it's vulnerability. That same Groton team beat Elmira Notre dame last year much worse than Southwestern did. Randolph is at least 2 TD's better than Southwestern. Chenango Forks had their hands full against Groton earlier this season with a non-spectacular 21-0 victory. Forks will give Southwestern fits today proving Randolphs' superiority.

Let me, a fanatic Maple Grove fan, be the first to congratulate our arch-rival Randolph Cardinals on their impressive win over Groton. Way to represent Section 6 football men! I have no doubt that they'll DOMINATE THE DOME next week as well. Randolph is making it obvious to all that the best two D teams in the state played against each other at Ralph Wilson Stadium in week 10. Never thought I would utter these words but....GO CARDINALS!
