Video: Jamestown's Rivera beats Clarence with last-minute 3 (plus more plays worth watching -- and listening to)

Not a bad week for Western New York basketball --- and the iPhone.

Two days after Canisius' Aaron Nevins beat Timon-St. Jude in the final seconds, Jamestown's Carlos Rivera came up with a super-clutch three-pointer in the final seconds to enable the Red Raiders to fend off a major challenge from host Clarence, 70-67.

A two-point deficit (67-65) in the final seconds turns into a one-point lead (68-67) in the final seconds, just like that.

After another clutch move for the Red Raiders -- a two-for-two trip to the foul line by Fletcher Larson -- Clarence did have a chance to tie as David Hill got off a three.

After the near-miss, listen to the nice postscript by sophomore team manager/public address announcer Dominic Taverna.

FYI: We've also got a separate post on more Thursday action, including video highlights from Bishop Timon-St. Jude's win at St. Joe's Thursday afternoon.

A little rewind here, as we head back to the start of the fourth (54-54).

David Hill with a nice putback puts Clarence up, 56-54, and and Taverna lets everyone know it was D-D-D-D-David "KING of the" Hill who hit the shot.

Jamestown takes a 60-58 lead on a Larson putback.

Hill hits a three for a 61-60 Clarence lead. Another nice listen.

Greg Lucsok hits a tough turnaround in the lane to put Clarence up, 67-65, in the final minute; then Jamestown misses a few chances underneath. Clarence calls a timeout, after which it would get fouled, which takes us back to the Rivera video clip at the top.

For our fans of clutch free throw shooting in front of a hostile student section, above are Larson's two free throws with four seconds left.

Like I said, not a bad week -- and we've got Friday's games and Saturday's four-game MLK Classic yet to come.
