Week Four's Thursday walkthrough

Our polls to kick off the week each brought in an average of 600-plus votes as of Wednesday night -- and what happens this weekend should help us learn what the true answers will be.

According to Prep Talk Nation, Clarence and Kenmore West will win their respective divisions (you can still vote in those if you want to).

This week's poll, as usual, asks what the weekend's top matchup is -- and there are several AA battles on tap.

The North Tonawanda at Riverside game (7 p.m. Friday at All High Stadium on WJJL 1440 AM) is a matchup between the defending AA state champion and the winner of the final two Harvard Cups as the champion of the Buffalo Public Schools -- and it will have a major impact on the Class AA North race.

Also on Friday night is a top AA South matchup of Orchard Park at Frontier at 7:30 p.m. Another AA North meeting is Saturday when Kenmore West hosts Williamsville North at 2. There's an AA game which won't impact the standings, but is quite intriguing -- 2-1 Jamestown at 2-1 Niagara Falls at 2 p.m. Saturday.

There are also some important Monsignor Martin games at 2 p.m. Saturday as Canisius hosts Pennsyvania power Cathedral Prep of Erie in West Seneca while St. Francis and St. Joe's open their League AA schedule on Kenmore Ave.

Then there's a 10 a.m. Saturday special at Riverside dubbed the "Cleveland Bowl" between No. 7 small school Cleveland Hill and No. 10 Grover Cleveland; the suddenly significant A North matchup of Grand Island (which lost to McKinley last week) at Starpoint (which battled Sweet Home tough last week); and what should be an entertaining (and possibly playoff race-impactful) A South game between Amherst (2-1) and Lafayette (1-2).

What do you think? Vote in the poll, which is also available, as always, at our high school home page.
