Section VI football playoff brackets set

Welcome to our Section VI playoff build-a-bracket workshop.

Entering Friday night, we knew that the Class C playoffs were set while we knew some teams had assured themselves seeds in other divisions.

This post began Friday evening with what we knew (check our initial playoff picture post and our AA North follow-up), and we updated it through the weekend.

I confirmed these matchups with Section VI football chairman Ken Stoldt. Dates, times and sites -- as well as the consolation bowl matchups -- will be determined by Stoldt and the Section VI committee at Sunday morning's Section VI meeting.

The seedings in each bracket were predetermined according to the division standings (N1-First place in North Division). Key: N-North Division, S-South Division, E-East Division, W-West Division, C-Central Division

CLASS AA

N4-Lockport at S1-Clarence
N3-Williamsville North at S2-Orchard Park
S3-Frontier at N2-Kenmore West
S4-Jamestown at N1-Riverside

CLASS A

S4-Lafayette at N1-Sweet Home
S3-Iroquois at N2-Williamsville East
N3-McKinley at S2-Amherst
N4-Grand Island at S1-Williamsville South

CLASS B

This was the most in-flux playoff picture due to its three divisions. Central champion Depew and North champion Alden were assured two of the top three seeds while South leader Lackawanna was the only other team clearly assured of a playoff spot entering the weekend.

The seedings for Class B were arranged by where you finished in your division. The three first-place teams earned the top three seeds; the three second-place teams earned the next three seeds; the best two third-place teams took the last two spots.

B8-Lew-Port (No. 2 third-place team) at B1-Alden (No. 1 division winner)

B7-Lackawanna (No. 1 third-place team) at B2-Depew (No. 2 division winner)

B6-Medina (No. 3 second-place team) at B3-Pioneer (No. 3 division winner)

B5-Eden (No. 2 second-place team) at B4-Burgard (No. 1 second-place team)

The Class B scenarios that came to fruition:

Burgard beat Cheektowaga: Burgard becomes No. 4 at 5-1 after winning point differential tiebreakers with Eden and Medina; Cheektowaga dropped to 3-3 (and was hoping for a Lew-Port loss and to win the point differential tiebreaker for No. 8).

Lew-Port won: It is 4-2 and takes the No. 8 spot.

CLASS C

S4-Allegany-Limestone (1-4) at N1-Grover Cleveland (4-0)
S3-Salamanca (3-2) at N2-Wilson (3-1)
N3-Cleveland Hill (2-2) at S2-Fredonia (4-1)
N4-Gowanda (1-3) at S1-Southwestern (5-0)

CLASS D

W4-Westfield at E1-Randolph
W3-Chautauqua Lake at E2-Portville
E3-Frewsburg at W2-Maple Grove
E4-Pine Valley at W1-Silver Creek
