The late Chuck Funke will be honored tonight as the Section VI football championships kick off at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
There will be a halftime tribute during the Class A game between Sweet Home and Williamsville South. The ceremony will be attended by members of Funke's family. The program is in Funke's honor, and the National Anthem for the Class A game (kickoff 8:30 p.m.) will be sung by Bonnie Zimmerman, a longtime member of the Section VI football championships committee with Funke.
It is certainly a fitting time to honor Funke, who was the Section VI football chairman for 26 years. He passed away the Wednesday before the season kicked off.
If you are going to what should be a tremendous Class A game tonight, make sure you halt your halftime conversations during the ceremony. For what Funke did for Section VI football and Western New York, he certainly deserves it.
