Pastor-Cooper hoops field announced

The field for the 25th edition of Western New York's unofficial tip-off of high school basketball was announced Monday at Mayor Byron W. Brown's office at City Hall. 

Here is the lineup for the tournament, which is named in honor of the memory of Al and Rose Pastor as well as son-in-law Gerald Cooper. It will be hosted again by Daemen College and includes its traditional two divisions for boys and one for girls.

Monday, Nov. 29
Rose Pastor Division (girls)
St. Mary's/Lanc. vs. Wmsv. North, 5:15 p.m.
Al Pastor Division (boys)
St. Mary's/Lanc. vs. McKinley, 6:45 p.m.
Orchard Park vs. Grover Cleveland, 8:15 p.m.

Tuesday, Nov. 29
Rose Pastor Division (girls)
Sacred Heart vs. Grand Island, 5:15 p.m.
Jerry Cooper Division (boys)
OTC Middle College vs. Hutch-Tech, 6:45 p.m.
East vs. Nichols, 8:15 p.m.

Thursday, Dec. 2 -- consolation games
Rose Pastor Division (girls), 5:15 p.m.
Jerry Cooper Division (boys), 6:45 p.m.
Al Pastor Division (boys), 8:15 p.m.

Friday, Dec. 3 -- championship games
Rose Pastor Division (girls), 5:15 p.m.
Jerry Cooper Division (boys), 6:45 p.m.
Al Pastor Division (boys), 8:15 p.m.

The Gerald Cooper Sportsmanship Award will be presented to the athlete who best exemplifies the standards set forth by Al Pastor.

On Friday there is the always-fun chicken wing eating contest sponsored by long-time tournament supporter Santora's Phase II Pizza.

We've got some other early-season boys hoops tournaments at our bulding-the-schedule post and we're compiling a season schedule right now. We'll let you know as soon as it is available on our site.
