National Anthem by the St. Joe's "Anthemers." (Keith McShea/Buffalo News)

Hello from a packed -- as expected -- St. Joe's gym for this season's second meeting of rivals St. Joe's and Canisius. Here's a look back at St. Joe's win at Canisius in Round One.

Pregame announcements are about to start.

7:21 p.m. Here we go.

7:22 p.m. Great start for St. Joe's: three-pointer by Connor Rehbaum, block by Reggie Agbeko, Agbeko basket off a nice lob from Jake Spitler. Miss Canisius. Turnover St. Joe's. Gordon Lyons drives the lane to make it 5-2 St. Joe's. Turnover St. Joe's on a Spitler errant lob for Agbeko.

7:42 p.m. Lyons with a nice drive and finish in the lane to make it 5-4. Rehbaum rebounds and is fouled on the rebound; he hits one of two; 6-4 St. Joe's. Miss by Adam Wier; missed drive by Steve Moser for St. Joe's, ball out of bounds to Canisius. Wier miss; Matt Hart hits a jumper, 6-6.

7:26 p.m. Aaron Nevins with a nifty steal and he's fouled going in for a layup with 4:08 left in the first. He misses first; misses second.

7:27 p.m. Chad Kelly of St. Joe's fouled on a drive by Weir with 3:58 left in first. Canisius fans do the A-B-Cs while Kelly is at the line, and he misses both. Miss by Canisius' Ring Henry on the other end.

7:28 p.m. Rehbaum gets an elbow out while dribbling and he's whistled for a foul. About one second later, he's hit with a foul on defense. Big development early. With 3:08 left in the first, Rehbaum and Kelly sit while A. Keith Louie and Tom Escott come in. Nevins drives the lane nicely, elevates and his finger roll falls with 2:47 left in the first with Canisius having taken an 8-6 lead.

7:31 p.m. Moser turnover with 2:30 left in first. Nevins misses three from the right. Agbeko misses a turnaround; Louie hustles to rebound and is fouled with 2:04 left in first. Both are good; 8-8.

7:32 p.m. Weir steals the ball in the backcourt after a Nevins miss; 10-8. Agbeko with a fine rebound and finish -- keeping the ball up -- to tie it at 10-10. Nevins with a sweeeeet floater in the lane over Agbeko; 12-10 under a minute.

7:34 p.m. Canisius pressuring big-time and Henry called for a foul with 28.7 seconds left. Agbeko with a very nice looking jumper from the right elbow; tied at 12-12 in final seconds. Nevins drives and misses at the buzzer. St. Joe's rowdies chanting "Reg-gie."

7:35 p.m. At the END OF THE FIRST QUARTER, we are tied at 12-12.

7:38 p.m. Nevins fouled on first play and he hits both; 14-12 Canisius. John Dziewit of Joe's blocks Brendan Tenney down low. St. Joe's misses rushed shot. Nevins fouled on a drive with 6:58 left in first; hits one; 15-12 Canisius. Rehbaum fouled on the floor, misses front end of one-and-one. Moser in transition hangs and banks it in; Canisius, 15-14. Hart short on a three. Aaron White drills a long two from the right side off a Matt McDonald pass; Spitler answers with a three; White with a pretty drive and finish; Canisius, 19-17. Moser fouled hard on a drive with 5:21 left in second: misses first; hits second; Canisius, 19-18.

7:43 p.m. Nevins does a great job hustling after two loose balls to get it back for Canisius but he's mixed up with Moser and called for a foul after the two got together; 5:05 left in second. Moser to the line and hits both; 20-19 St. Joe's.

7:44 p.m. Hart misses a floater; Lyons rebounds and is fouled by Agbeko with 4:38 left in second. Hits first; misses second; 20-20. Rehbaum misses three; Canisius transition layup won't go down for Weir; Agbeko with a very nice post move; 22-20 St. Joe's. Kick St. Joe's with 3:48 left in second.

7:47 p.m. Nice block by Escott helping on a Nevins drive; wild sequence in which Louie got on a loose ball has Lyons called for a block when it looked like Louie clearly ran him over. Louie misses both; Kelly gets a loose ball on the rebound and scores; 24-20 St. Joe's.

With St. Joe's coach Mark Simon hollering, "Get a good one!" Louie misses a three badly. Hart comes down in transition with a layup for a 24-22 St. Joe's lead and Simon calls a timeout with 2:51 left in the second.

7:49 p.m. Spitler bangs a three from the right corner; St. Joe's, 27-22. Canisius misses three but gets the ball out of bounds. Missed three followed up very strongly by Nevins; 27-24. Louie on a nice cut from Moser; 29-24. Under two minutes. Canisius another missed three. Moser nice body control on a fast-break banker for a 31-24 lead and Canisius coach Kyle Husband calls a timeout with 1:24 left in the second.

7:52 p.m. Hart with a very pretty drive; 31-26. Moser called for an offensive foul as he gets in too deep on the drive before kicking out and knocked a defender over. Canisius ball under 35 seconds. Escott called for a foul on Nevins fighting for a rebound off a miss inside. Nevins to line with 19.8 seconds left; misses first on one-and-one.

7:54 p.m. Moser turnover followed by breakout by Canisius and Nevins is grabbed by Louie. Louie is called for the foul and then is rightly hit with a technical after bouncing the ball to the court in frustration. Nevins hits first, misses second on his foul (31-27); there are 7.6 seconds left. Hart to the line for the technical. Hits first, hits second and it is 31-29. Canisius gets the ball back but doesn't hit on three tries before the buzzer.

7:57 p.m. We are at HALFTIME and St. Joe's leads Canisius, 31-29. Fun stuff.

Nice little bump of momentum for Canisius on the late fouls and the three points at the line. Canisius has missed a ton of threes, which is key to their game -- if they hit them like they do in their best games, they can win this.

8:17 p.m. Sorry for some technical difficulties. Knocked offline.

I'll fill in blanks later (writing later: sorry to break that promise, but I had notes that vaporized somewhere during a frustrating night with the laptop. Ugh).

Great game here. St. Joe's leads, 48-44, with 2:45 left in third.

Agbeko with a pretty finish off a pick and roll pass from Rehbaum to make it 50-44. Lyons scores off inbound play; 50-46. Rehbaum a killer three-pointer from deeep for a 53-46 lead. Huge shot after a scrambling possession for St. Joe's. Lyons down low; 53-48 St. Joe's; Spitler misses three. Canisius ball; Weir scores off inbounds; 53-50 St. Joe's. Aaron White foul with 8.9 seconds left in third. St. Joe's runs a play for Rehbaum and he bangs another jumper from the right corner, a two-pointer in the quarter's final seconds.

Rehbaum was ridiculous in that quarter.

8:22 p.m. At the END OF THE THIRD QUARTER, St. Joe's leads Canisius, 55-50.

8:23 p.m. Hart with a driving layup for Canisius; 55-52. St. Joe's miss; Lyons miss down low, Henry miss follow. Moser drives and is fouled by White with 7:10 left. Misses first. Makes second; 56-52. Weir miss; Rehbaum off a Moser feed in transition; 58-52. Lyons with some tough work down low and he's fouled with 6:25 left. Hits first, hits second; 58-54 St. Joe's. Turnover Rehbaum under pressure.

8:27 p.m. Great run by Canisius to take a 59-58 lead with 5:26 left and prompt a timeout by St. Joe's coach Simon. Lyons scored inside to bring Canisius within two, and after a turnover by St. Joe's, Matt McDonald nailed a three-pointer from the left corner to put Canisius up. Lyons drew a charge on St. Joe's next possession and Canisius will have the ball.

Doing some iPhone video so the updates will come when I can get to them.

8:29 p.m. Another big play -- Lyons scores down low while being fouled with 5:12 left.

Lyons misses free throw; 61-58 Canisius. Turnover St. Joe's as Canisius continues to turn up the pressure.

8:32 p.m. Great stuff here. Nevins to the line with 2:56 left after a series of back-and-forth baskets.

Nevins hits two to put Canisius up, 68-66.

8:33 p.m. Moser to the line after he is blocked an apparently fouled -- although Canisius fans (and I) aren't sure about it. Moser misses both, Chad Kelly gets rebound out of bounds to St. Joe's. Nevins steals a bad pass and his layup puts Canisius up, 70-66.

8:36 p.m. Matt Hart with a layup after a Rehbaum miss inside by St. Joe's and Canisius takes a 72-66 lead with 2:09 left in the game, prompting another St. Joe's timeout by Simon.

8:37 p.m. Moser drives and is bumped for a foul with 1:57 left. Hits both. Canisius, 72-68.

8:39 p.m. Agbeko scores inside off a lucky bounce of a lob pass off the backboard to cut it to two -- Nevins speeeeds back the other way and scores while drawing Agbeko's fifth foul. Nevins hits the free throw for a 75-70 lead.

St. Joe's with a miss inside, Lyons with a rebound and coach Husband with a timeout with 1:03 left and Canisius up, 75-70.

8:42 p.m. Hart to the line with 1:03 left after a quick foul by Moser. Misses first, makes second; 76-70.

Rehbaum to line with 53.5 seconds left. Hits first, misses second. Canisius has the rebound tipped out and Hart scores on a layup; 78-71.

St. Joe's misses several inside but Escott is fouled with :28 left and it is called an intentional foul. Escott misses first, makes second; Canisius, 78-72. St. Joe's gets the ball back and Louie scores on a drive to make it 78-74 and coach Simon calls a timeout with 22.3 seconds left.

8:47 p.m. Canisius calls a timeout on the inbounds. Still 22.3 left.

8:48 p.m. Nevins fouled soon after inbounds; 21.3 left. Misses first, make second. 79-74.

8:49 p.m. Rehbaum fouled on drive with :18 left. Hits both; 79-76.

8:50 p.m. Nevins fouled bringing ball up with 16.1 left. Hits first, second, 81-76 Canisius.

8:51 p.m. Moser hits a follow jumper to cut it to 81-78 and St. Joe's calls a timeout with 4.0 seconds left. There was a foul called with 1.1 seconds left and Nevins hit the second to make it a four-point game.

8:54 p.m. We have a FINAL SCORE: Canisius 82, St. Joe's 78.

Obviously a great win for the Crusaders, and it sure sets the drama table nicely for the Manhattan Cup, with the rivals having beaten everyone in the league so far as well as each other on the other's floor (Canisius closes the Monsignor Martin league season on Friday at home against Bishop Timon-St. Jude).

Meanwhile, some thoughts on what else went down on a very busy Tuesday night after a review of our scoreboard page:

Certainly the first thing noticed tonight was Bennett's big win at McKinley, which I don't mind saying makes my poll ballot today look not so bad. That's a tough place to play and McKinley had everything to play for -- it now falls a game behind East in the Division I standings with one game to play. ... Archbishop Walsh sends St. Mary's on its long trip back home with a loss -- I don't mind saying that I predicted in a conversation with a fellow hoop junkie that I didn't think St. Mary's would get through both Walsh games without a loss. In a Monsignor Martin season in which we hadn't seen a surprise victory, we finally got one. ... Nice win for West Seneca East, which earns its first victory over Sweet Home in what must have been a long time. ... Dondre Alexander scores 32 of Lackawanna's 56 in a win over Cleveland Hill. ... Score of the night: Olean 61, Southwestern 18. That's a Trojans team which is now 12-5 and 8-4 in CCAA I and lost by two and 18 to Dunkirk. We just might see Olean at Buffalo State after all. ... Dunkirk, meanwhile, improved to 17-0 tonight and goes for a perfect regular season Thursday night at 3-14 Oracle Charter (which the Marauders beat, 67-37, last week). ... Jack Ranallo went for 31 and five three-pointers as Christian Central (12-11) closed the regular season a perfect 9-0 in the IAC.
