Buffalo girls win opener at BCANY Hoops Festival, boys fall to Long Island

It was a split for Buffalo on Friday at the Basketball Coaches Association of New York Hoops Festival, as the girls scholastic team knocked off Long Island, 65-46, but the boys team fell to Long Island, 70-57.

Grand Island's Cassie Oursler scored 14 points for Buffalo, while Samantha Wozniak of Lancaster was right behind with 13 to lead Buffalo to victory.

In the boys game, Buffalo led 29-27 at the half. The score was tied at 41 with 11 minutes to go, but Long Island took control, going on a 15-0 run to cruise to victory.

Matt Hart (Canisius) had 12 points for Buffalo, including three 3-pointers. Reggie Agbeko (St. Joe's) put up a double-double, scoring 12 and grabbing 12 rebounds.

The BCANY hoops festival in Johnson City, near Binghamton, is a tournament that was created to help fill the void left by the cancellation of the Empire State Games.

The Buffalo boys team will play Mid-Hudson Saturday morning at 10:30 a.m. followed by Hudson Valley at 1:30 p.m.

The Buffalo girls will play Mid-Hudson at 9 a.m., then Hudson Valley at noon.
