Heat cited in high school football deaths down South

With some summer football camps going on now and practice now just 10 days away, I had to pass on some sobering, disturbing links regarding what has happened in football practices down South.

Four players and a coach have died after practicing during a major heat wave.

Associated Press columnist Paul Newberry says enough is enough.

While we haven't been experiencing the same kind of heat wave, it is of utmost importance that coaches and players prepare in the right way, and monitor things the right way, once practices start on Aug. 15.

Section VI football coaches all attend a mandatory heat clinic -- it is part of their preseason meetings next week.
