Pastor-Cooper Showcase tips off hoops season two weeks from tonight

Two weeks from right now, the basketball season will tip off with a traditional event at its traditional site with its traditional great price (free!) -- but with just a little twist.

The 26th Pastor-Cooper Showcase will be held Wednesday, Nov. 30 through Friday, Dec. 2 at Daemen College.

The event, which had held semifinals, consolations and finals over four days of competition and had started on a Monday, has become a three-day showcase event later in the week. Tournament chairman David Cooper cited teams not being able to commit to two games in a tournament due to the restrictions of an 18-game schedule. The increased flexibility has made for a fun, diverse lineup of top teams in both boys and girls hoops.

Here's the lineup of the event that honors former tournament organizers, all from the same family, in the names of its divisions:

Boys -- Frontier vs. St. Mary's/Lanc., 7 p.m.
Boys -- St. Francis vs. Riverside, 8:30 p.m.

Thursday, Dec. 1
