The final game of the Federation hockey tripleheader for the Catholic title features Canisius against St. Francis.
Canisius stunned defending state Catholic champ St. Joe's in the semifinals to reach this gae, while St. Francis routed Timon-St. Jude in its semifinal.
This is rematch of final from two years ago won by Canisius. St. Francis lost in final to St. Joe's last year. Will the third time be the charm?
Couple chances for each team so far but no goals. Pretty fast first period.
End of period, no score but Canisius will probably have a power play to start the second period. St. Francis' David Muszynski drilled Patrick Mitchell from behind at the end of the period. Rather unnecessary play. Mitchell down for about five minutes, with teams even going to locker room while he was still being attended to. Eventually gets up and leaves with a little help off the ice.
Muszynski gets minor and misconduct for checking from behind.
Canisius draws first blood. Brian Costello scores off assists by Patrick Mitchell and Dimitrios Koutsomitis with 11:31 left. Crusaders lead, 1-0.
St. Francis ties it 1-1 with 6:05 left. Bernardino Lettieri puts in rebound of Cooper Stefaniak shot. Lots of traffic in front of net on that goal.
Tight, physical game and finally St. Francis breaks through with a power-play goal with 5:28 left as David Kulczyk scores. Lettieri and Joe Kirst earn assists. Canisius penalized for tripping after the goal so another PP for Red Raiders.
Frannies may have just sealed it with empty-net goal with 42.6 seconds left by Matthew Higgins. St. Francis leads, 3-1.
Jeff Magavern makes it 4-1 five seconds later with long slapper from neutral zone.
St. Francis wins 4-1. First Fed title since 1999.
