Another week, another exciting live announcement on PrepTalkTV Sunday.
We're thrilled to announce that PrepTalkTV Sunday, in cooperation with the Trench Trophy Committee, will be announcing the 10 finalists for the coveted lineman award during our 8:30 p.m. live program Sunday night (which can be seen here or at the buffalonews.com home page).
For the last decade, Trench Trophy committee members have scouted games throughout the season and they also break down film at weekly meetings. The Trench Trophy committee, like the Connolly Cup committee, announces a weekly honor roll throughout the season with the intent of determining the top lineman in Western New York.
The top 10 finalists are traditionally announced late in the season. The winner is unveiled at the group's annual banquet. This year's 10th annual banquet will be Dec. 5 at the Lancaster Elks Lodge.
Trench Trophy co-chairmen Carl Kuras and Ed Sciera will join us on PrepTalkTV Sunday for the live announcement of the top 10.
Devon Leach of Orchard Park was last year's winner. Check out a ton of information on the award at trenchtrophy.com.
PrepTalkTV Sunday is our weekly 8:30 p.m. live show at buffalonews.com in which Lauren Mariacher and I recap each weekend of high school football with highlights, interviews, analysis and in-studio guests. This week we'll have a rundown of this busy weekend of five huge games and we'll look ahead to next weekend's state championships.
Here are the finalists for this year's Connolly Cup.
They were announced tonight live on PrepTalkTV Sunday:
Corey Barczykowski, Alden
James Chambers, Lockport
Maurice Howie, South Park
Austin Mietz, Akron
Ilo Noble, St. Joe's
Qadree Ollison, Canisius
Andy Smigiera, West Seneca East
Mike Torrillo, Sweet Home
Nick Vallone, St. Mary's
Mitch Wilson, Orchard Park
Chad Kelly of St. Joe's was last year's winner. Kelly was also The Buffalo News Player of the Year (our award is separate and The News is not part of the Connolly Cup committee). Check out a ton of information on the award at connollycup.com.
Eleven weeks down, six teams still playing. We'll wrap up the Monsignor Martin semifinals and the Far West Regionals from a big, busy weekend, and we'll also have a big announcement during tonight's 11th episode of PrepTalkTV Sunday tonight at 8:30 p.m.
The 10 finalists for the Connolly Cup will also be announced during our show, which can be seen here -- and also right on the home page of buffalonews.com.
PrepTalkTV Sunday follows tonight's 7:30 broadcast of the [BN]TheHuddle Bills wrapup show, which can also be seen in the window below.
As always, we'll have highlights, postgame interviews and analysis.
Afterwards, I'll have a live chat right here. It should start around 9:30 p.m. -- the exact time depends on how long the live video show goes. Let us know what you thought of the show, as well as all of the high school action, football and all fall sports.
As always, anything in the world of high school sports -- or our coverage of it -- is up for discussion.
As always, please just ask questions once. I promise I'll get to them.
The Far West Regionals are contested between Section VI and Section V (Rochester area) champions for the right to advance to the state final four.
We'll have live blogs on all five games this weekend here on the blog. When one game ends during tonight's doubleheader or Saturday's tripleheader, refresh the Prep Talk blog home page and there will be another live blog to enter.
If you are at the game or want to contribute via Twitter, tweets with the hashtag #preptalkscores attached will automatically show up in the live blog.
